The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a story about the terror and beauty of walking into the unknown, but the movie is so afraid of defying Marvel convention that only the terror shines through. starts strong, crawls to the finish. my review: indiewire.com/criticism/movi…

Fantastic 4: wait no come back superman i take it all back
Our friends in Gaza are texting and posting what feel like farewells, as they and their families enter the final stages of the starvation imposed on them, while my employer, @Columbia University, just announced a new crackdown on criticism of Israel. What is wrong with us?
i have received some version of this notification everyday for the last several months. what are we doing
I’ll be moderating a zoom Q&A with Kiyoshi Kurosawa after the 7:15pm screening of Cloud at IFC tomorrow. Don’t think I’ve ever done an on-stage interview with a virtual subject before, but the format feels all too right for this one. come thru. ☁️☁️☁️
Kiyoshi Kurosawa arrives in the U.S. in ONE WEEK. Just a few tickets remain for Q&As at @IFCCenter. A new thriller for our digital age, CLOUD opens at @FilmLinc and IFC Center next Friday 7/18, in LA on 7/25, and across the country 8/1. ☁️ cloudthefilm.com
beloved character actor Joe Pantoliano.
Voldemort is already cast and will appear in multiple episodes To keep it a surprise, HBO has decided not to announce who has been cast as Voldemort
Really special little movie. Strathairn forever.
You know what they'd call us back home? Kindred spirits. Starring David Strathairn, Jane Levy, Will Pullen, Celia Weston, Dascha Polanco, and Anna Camp, A LITTLE PRAYER opens in theaters August 29.
it's gonna be a bumpy road, but i think Eddington will ~eventually~ be regarded as one of the defining films of 2025. out wide this weekend.
Eddington: Ari Aster's Covid freakout feels like the first truly modern American Western, or at least the first one with enough integrity to mention @PopCrave by name. it's, uh, gonna be polarizing, but i loved it. my #Cannes2025 review: indiewire.com/criticism/movi…
Industry snub every year but it doesn’t matter because we have word of mouth. We have the people, that’s all that matters.
“You know I’m something of a Zohran Mamdani myself”
In it to win it.
As a ~cinephile~ I was deeply upset by the lack of a movie night on this season of Love Island USA.
What’s going on with my “boys” and, in some cases, “gals?”

I’d argue that Superman makes this pretty self-evident
James Gunn says ‘PADDINGTON 2’ is “one of the greatest movies ever made” “It’s a classic […] People think I’m being ironic when I say that, but I’m telling the truth.” (Via: youtu.be/OjTaMdvb-M0?si…)
Israel has murdered more starving Palestinian civilians queuing for food from its "distribution hubs" (798) than the total number of Israeli civilians (695) killed on 7th October. On top of the 80,000 people (over 25,000 kids) it's already butchered.
it’s simple but probably the biggest reason Zohran is going to win is that he’s the only candidate that’s actually running to be a mayor.
The 14th Street Busway has been a smashing success: faster commutes, fewer crashes, calmer streets. So why is Eric Adams blocking a similar plan for 34th Street?
stay out of my lane you fucking dweeb
Not. Good. Review coming soon
There’s a part in Death Stranding 2 where a character ends a recorded message to you with “I have one more thing to tell you, but I have to take a shower first” then there’s a boss fight, and when you go back he says “All clean! The thing I had to tell you is that I died”
Fantastic Four is screening at 7pm the night before a noon embargo, so critics will have 3 work hours at most to file their reviews (to say nothing of the edit process). not the biggest crisis on earth, but I’ll never get why studios keep doing this to their films. even good ones
just got a nice email from Preston Sturges' son about this. what a world!
i wrote about the dire condition of studio comedies, why Hollywood made a fatal mistake by relegating comedies to streaming, and how that makes The Naked Gun the single most important movie of the summer. indiewire.com/features/comme…
