Finally --- the 2nd edition of ISLR is out!!!!🥳🎉🪅🍾 Well, sort of. 🙄It's "published", but due to shortages in the global paper supply, hard copies won't be available for a bit longer 😢😭🤦♀️ You can pre-order a hard copy from Springer/Amazon, & **download the pdf today**! 1/

Join "Valid Inference with Double Dipping" on Dec. 16 w/ the next Distinguished Speaker, @daniela_witten! Learn techniques for making valid statistical inferences when the same data is used to both generate & test hypotheses (known as "double dipping"). bit.ly/sh-witten
We’re seeking a new chair to lead a dedicated team of faculty, staff, and students who are passionate about developing and using rigorous quantitative methods to improve the well-being of communities in the United States and around the world. bit.ly/3MmZHwE
I'm thrilled to share that I've started as an assistant professor in the Department of Statistics at UC Irvine's Donald Bren School of ICS (@UCIbrenICS). This would not have been possible without my mentors @daniela_witten, Jacob Bien, @datta_science, and @nilanjan10c!
n = 3?! What kind of huge effect size does this have ?!?
Exciting life update: A year from now, I will start as Assistant Professor in the Biology Department at @UW!! Looking forward to this next step in my career
“Energised and inspired to kick off another academic semester!”
I’m tired of Big Parm selling us tasteless processed powder to put on our pastas and vegetables. It’s time to Make America Grate Again 🧀
just a quick question for moms of young babies in academia…... how
One more time for the people in the back: AI is a software wrapper around machine learning, machine learning is fancy words for statistics, thanks for coming to my TED talk
I could not ask for a better statistical family 🥹 #jsm2024

Is the #ICML2024 acronym being changed to International Conference of Men Learning?
Seems like #ICML2024 understimated people's interested in geometric deep learning. So we had to make the @GRaM_org_ workshop overflow in the corridors to manage the great turnaround! 🙌🏾
⭐️ Big news! HHMI is investing $300+ million in 26 new #HHMIInvestigators from 19 US institutions. These top scientists will drive groundbreaking research in diverse fields, from neuroscience to immunology to structural biology & beyond. Welcome to HHMI! hhmi.news/4df2eVs

is it possible to bankrupt oneself by buying statistics books? I'm not sure but I aim to find out
Wonderful collaboration with @daniela_witten & @thabangh led by @mrvollger enabling the accurate quantification of single-molecule and single-haplotype chromatin architectures, and the first ever intuitive measurement of chromatin accessibility (i.e. percent actuation).
Thrilled to share the culmination of 4 years of #Fiberseq research enabling the accurate quantification of chromatin accessibility across the 6 Gbp diploid human genome with single-molecule and single-nucleotide precision. See thread for the main findings biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
(1/3) Outstanding IMS Bulletin piece by @daniela_witten: imstat.org/2024/05/15/wri… I'd add: Profs should not be intimidated if your advisees are more talented in some areas (e.g. more mathematically 'gifted', better at programming, etc) than you are in your *current* career stage.
I know the numbers look bad, but maybe the problem isn't that there's sexism in science, but rather than women just prefer not to change their names to Michael?
1 in 10 of the top 100 ‘best’ scientists are named Michael or Eric, but only 3% are female, according to @guide2research. Putting aside the obvious flaws of the H-index, these numbers are disheartening. Thanks to @mbeisen for sharing. research.com/scientists-ran…
