I don't think anyone needs to agree with what's popular in regards to media. But I think it's helpful to engage with WHY certain media is popular with the fans or general audience. Otherwise you'll always be left confused why you disagreed with people regarding shows and movies.
A series’s popularity isn’t and should never be held up as a determinant for its quality. People should be encouraged to form their own opinions on media, instead of relying on metrics and other people’s thoughts to justify their experiences.
Great worldbuilding, fun characters, cool plot. I think Gargantia even deserve it's own open world game
What's your favorite hidden gem anime that never got the attention it deserved?
Often toku fans in Japan tend to defend toku by saying "there's toku works that can be appreciated by adults too" when people said it's childish to watch them. That's largely the historic pattern than saying it's okay to watch children media even if you're older.
