Crush Crime
@crush_crime
The British justice system is BROKEN. Join us so we can force government to FIX it: JAIL career criminals // OPEN the courts // grooming gangs inquiry NOW
The Government's sentencing review seems almost unbelievable, but it's true - they are proposing even weaker sentences for career criminals. We know that imprisoning career criminals is the best way to protect the public. Let's make politicians listen.
I wrote about the difficulties of measuring crime data and how unlike other investigations the only thing that really matters is how people feel
“The latest evolution in gaslighting is posting graphs showing that crime is dropping” — @G0ADM on the myths of falling crime thecritic.co.uk/the-myths-of-f…
Taxes up, police officers down. The Government is not prioritising crime.

Victims of these Rotherham rapists had to wait 25 years for their abusers to face justice. It's been over a month since the Prime Minister announced a grooming gangs inquiry, and still not even a timetable for a further details. How much longer do victims have to wait?
Three men have today been found guilty of Rotherham abuse offences after an NCA investigation. Sageer Hussain, Kessur Ajaib and Mohammed Makhmood groomed their teenage victims before subjecting them to sex attacks.
Today we have news that the Met has 1000 fewer constables this year. On the same day, no tweet, no plan, no emergency response from the Mayor's office. He does what PM's do when struggling - he focuses on foreign affairs. (graph @rorygeo)
Put aside what you think about this issue - is this something the *Mayor of London* should be focusing on? Maybe he should concentrate on phone theft (highest on record), shoplifting (highest on record), cleaning the tube (not calling volunteers criminals). Don't know!
Lee Nichols beat up a deaf 72-year-old man outside a pub. He had 124 previous convictions for 226 offences including shoplifting and violence. Just 21 months prison. He’ll be out in less than a year. More crime MUST mean more time.

If free will doesn't exist what is the most moral way to keep society safe from temperamentally violent people? Prison. But not prison as some form of moral punishment. Prison as a means of separating temperamentally unadjustable ultraviolent people from the rest of society.
10 courtrooms at the Old Bailey are empty all day today. The courts backlog is at a record high and rising. Not enough urgency is being applied by government to resolve this.

This solicitor backs crime. She likes the sound of stolen Lime bikes and blames the company, not the criminals, for thefts. Is she the same solicitor who used to be a senior lawyer for the body that holds police officers to account? How many at @policeconduct think like this?

The courts backlog is still growing and too many courtrooms will be shut all day today. It's not as bad as last week. But we should expect better of our broken justice system.

This prolific burglar (85 offences on his record) had been given two 3-year jail sentences. But he was let out of prison after less than two years. He then burgled an elderly woman’s home. Just 29 months jail. How little of it will he serve this time? Jail career criminals.

This podcast is a real eye opener. 👀 Highly recommend listening to this. The whole video is in the thread.
Records are being broken for shoplifting and theft. Politicians must make it a top priority to Crush Crime. @Triggerpod
The court backlog is at an all time high and growing but the courts are sitting empty. Government has chosen to prioritise party management. Instead they should prioritise crushing the backlog.

Driving penalties are a joke. Minimum driving bans for: Drink driving offences - 12 months. Repeat drink drivers - 3 years. Death by drunk driving - 6 years. Wholly inadequate. Why are these people ever allowed to drive again? @SarahCoombesWB
The courts backlog is rising. But courts are left empty all day. Open the courts.
