US politicians are defending Israel’s efforts to tear up international law and annex the West Bank. They’re criticising Ireland and the Occupied Territories Bill. What should we do? Debated the case on @drivetimerte yesterday, you can listen back here: rte.ie/radio/radio1/c…
The unimaginable horror of Gaza, the destruction of the West Bank. Mass starvation has taken hold.. it must end. Ireland hold firm against pressure on the OTB..my op ed irishexaminer.com/opinion/commen…

I dearly miss Brussels
Brussels 28 July. EU press officers are sending out press releases, but then when you email them back you get an out-of-office that says "I will be back on 26 August."
This is really significant. A cross-party committee of TDs & Senators, Govt & opposition, spent weeks scrutinising the OTB in detail and hearing from experts. They've said clearly: services must be in. Hugely important support and a strong message to Govt - time #PassTheOTB.
Foreign Affairs Committee expected to recommend services be included in Occupied Territories Bill irishtimes.com/politics/2025/… via @IrishTimesPol
This is hugely important news. The Occupied Territories Bill I tabled in 2018 was clear, and the ICJ agreed in 2024 - we must end all trade with the illegal Israeli settlements, both goods & services. Today's vote in favour from the FA Ctte is a crucial step towards that,…

The attack on Dier al-Balah is contributing to the famine unfolding in Gaza. More than 150 farmers were forced to abandon around 250 acres of farm land. This was one of the remaining places in Gaza able to produce fresh fruit & vegetables, feeding thousands via community kitchens
Israel’s evacuation notice for Deir al-Balah is catastrophic for an already beleaguered population trying to stave off hunger and malnutrition.
To those who have dismissed the impact and potential of the Occupied Territories Bill over this week, who have said it won’t help. The Palestinian Ambassador to Ireland: “The OTB is not symbolism. It is crucial political leadership which can help set a new EU precedent.”
Ireland has always been an important voice in demanding justice & action in the face of international law violations. Ireland’s efforts to take action against illegal Israeli settlements with #OccupiedTerritoriesBill is not symbolism. It's crucial political leadership which can…
41 years ago, 11 female Dunnes workers went on strike, refusing to handle South African fruit. Their act had little economic impact but was huge for the anti-apartheid movement. Is the OTB that moment now for Gaza? And is is why the US lobby is so scared? thecurrency.news/articles/19640…
Irish action is why @kajakallas presented it as an alternative for member states 15 July. And as of this week, Sweden's main opposition party leader @magdandersson stands by a national ban, and their FP spox @johanssonmorgan refers to Ireland. Leadership x.com/johanssonmorga…
That Ireland has “no influence” is of course the same condescending argument rolled out when we stood against apartheid South Africa in the 1980s. The same tired script, a complete moral dead end. Here’s what the Palestinian Ambassador to the UN has to say on Irish leadership 👇
BREAKING: More than 30 people have been killed after Israeli troops opened fire towards crowds of Palestinians waiting for aid, according to witnesses and hospital officials news.sky.com/story/gaza-mor…
Eyebrow raise at the question aside - of course Govt should consider the consequences of its policies, that's exactly why we're in Ctte - and the unsurprising finding that many agree, it's great to see only 10% opposed. The US Republican view is a firm minority in Ireland. 1/🧵
Occupied Territories Bill: Irish voters grow more cautious, poll shows irishtimes.com/politics/2025/…
Amid US pressure, the legal arguments for including services in the Occupied Territories Bill are being teased out at the foreign affairs committee. The world is watching to see if it ends up as precedent-setting legislation or simply "window dressing” thecurrency.news/articles/19640…
