The Trump administration has shut down the CBP One app for migrants. The Biden-era process allowed nearly 1 million migrants to enter the US at legal border crossings. We reported that an estimated 270,000 migrants are waiting in Mexico, hoping to use the app to enter the US.
New reporting: Around 270,000 migrants are estimated to be in Mexico trying to enter the US via the CBP One app that President-elect Trump has vowed to shut down, per internal estimates. Officials are concerned some may cross illegally if the app ends. 1/ cbsnews.com/news/270000-mi…

Alien Enemies Act remains blocked--in a new decision today, Judge Boasberg says migrants are entitled to individualized hearings on whether act applies to them before being deported Denied govt's request to lift temporary restraining order
Migrant encounters at and between POEs along the U.S.-Mexico border dropped to 12,000 in February, the first full month of the Trump administration. That’s the lowest monthly total since at least 2014 and the lowest BP encounters since April 2017. @MigrationPolicy analyses👇
In its first month the Trump admin has bent the U.S. government towards a singular purpose: immigration enforcement. This extraordinary shift lacks foundation, invoking an invasion that is not matched by reality. My latest with Muzaffar Chishti bit.ly/TrumpDeportati…
As of mid-Feb, daily migrant encounters *at & between* POEs along US border fell to about 370. The significant drop in arrivals is partially explained by the cancellation of #CBPOne parole appointments by the Trump administration.
1st Trump deportations data I've seen, from @BillMelugin_ "Homan said that after the first week, the Trump administration had removed and returned 7,300 illegal immigrants and had deported them to Mexico, Jordan, Brazil and El Salvador" MUCH lower pace than the Biden admin
Of the nearly 1.5 million unauthorized immigrants with final removal orders as of Nov 2024, over 2/3 were from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala & El Salvador. Though they are enforcement targets under the Trump admin, many may be pursuing forms of relief of protection from removal.
Guatemalan President declares agreement with US will not be #SafeThirdCountry, but instead an agreement to assist in returns of non-Guatemalans. The difference is that Guatemala wouldn't inherit obligation to provide migrants asylum.
MX Pres Sheinbaum reported receiving ~5,600 returnees from the US btwn Jan 20-27. About 79 percent of those have been Mexican nationals, the rest of multiple nationalities. An additional 435 migrants were returned on Jan 28. That is a daily average of 670 returns from Jan 20-28.
The latest by colleagues @KathleenBushJo2 and Muz Chishti looking at the "Shock and Awe" effect of Trump's first days in office Actions to sow fear and create chaos have been taken, read below for a smart look at the hurdles ahead for this agenda migrationpolicy.org/article/trump-…
Data through Jan 20 suggest daily migrant encounters by Border Patrol have been below 1,500 for nearly a month. That's the benchmark set to end Biden asylum restrictions, but it's unclear if Trump admin will end those or if new EOs suspending asylum supersede Biden restrictions
Trump's new directives drive confusion. Their full implementation effects are still unknown but important to note that these directives come with NO additional resources to carry them out, capacity and operational constraints continue.
EXCLUSIVE — U.S. border agents have been directed to summarily deport migrants crossing into the country illegally, without allowing them to request asylum, in accordance with President Trump's orders, according to internal documents and officials. cbsnews.com/news/trump-dep…
