Opining on Tennis or Catholicism, what I’m reading, or watching, probably.
I’ve a good old friend - @johnhwd - who tried to educate me in Monty Python, and I always pretended I sort of understood it. Twenty years on, I admit I really don’t. (He was also good on Waugh, and theology, and general good humour, so all was well!)
The Fish Slapping Dance was filmed at Teddington Lock in 1971 (broadcast in 1972) and is credited as being the sketch that made Monty Python internationally popular. ‘It works anywhere on the planet,’ Michael Palin said many years later. ‘Even North Korea’. Good evening.
I’m reading Rowan Williams “On Augustine”. Absolutely brilliant essays. A truly beautiful mind.
Could there be any doubt?
Grace Kelly in "Rear Window" (1954).. Do you think she was the most stunning actress ever?
Paulinus, an Italian, was consecrated bishop of York #OTD in 625. He baptised many Northumbrians including King Edwin, his daughter Eanflæd and Hild of Whitby in 627. He once spent 36 days with the king and queen at Gefrin (Yeavering) catechising and baptising. 📸English Heritage
Ten years since I first happened across this song (Jill Scott was Mma Ramotswe in the BBC’s adaptation of The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency, so that is the somewhat unglamorous connection), and I must admit I still find it delightful musical poetry. open.spotify.com/track/1nei0lgg…
In Britain, they ask you a whole load of questions before they put you into the MRI to make sure you don’t have the tiniest bit of metal in your body. Privatised medicine in America? Not so much.
Doctors. PLEASE METAL SCAN YOUR PATIENCE BEFORE AN MRI
I think this is pretty cool. He seems genuinely interested even fascinated by what they’re showing him. Gotta love the manual shutters on the dome!

Some of this is due to renegotiation of contracts, some to rehousing to HMOs (or “bedsits” as we used to call them). This latter surely strains even more the dire housing situation. But little to none of it is from…actually assisting these people to go home.

Grok this, Grok that. Feel like we've hit Grok bottom.
A consistent habitus of mind that looks for statements of the Sovereign Pontiffs in order to disagree with them is not a habitus worthy of a Catholic’s cultivation.
crazy that people have been going hehe haha for at least like a thousand years
