Agreed. For some of us, low carb just makes the kcal restriction fairly automatic / significantly easier. Not all of us want to weigh every morsel and log it in an app lol
A lot of relevant nutrition history came from Cambridge in the 1950s and 60s (eg, Krebs & Randle) and that seems to be where teaching it as a "switch" began It was never a switch; just easier to teach the metabolic pathways that way
It's not a switch between carbs & fats - that's an older framework - otherwise you'd see an RQ of 1 after butter on toast to reflect carb ox then 0.7 to reflect fat ox when the carbs are cleared You don't see that, it's between 0.7 & 1

Low carb is a spectrum and calorie restriction goes out of the window when low-carb high-fat diet promoters say fat is a free food and you can eat as much butter as you want. You stall fat loss as well as clog your arteries with such advice.
