Open access will dilute the effectiveness of a nationalisation programme and force a public operator to behave like a private company which is exactly what we don't want! The evidence is clear that competition for public services is wasteful and results in profit leakage.

.@FirstGroupplc is claiming that private 'open access' rail services add value to the UK economy. But they don't even believe their own fantasy economics. Objecting to an open access application, First's own company @GWRHelp has said it causes 'severe damage' to public money.
⚠️ The economic damage caused by open access is worse now than ever. Between 2007 and 2021, publicly-owned operator LNER would have had 82% of open access revenue. From 2022, this rose to above 90%. Source: 'Impact of Open Access on LNER' report, concealed by @transportgovuk
