Medicine needs an AC-12 team to go around looking for funny business 👀
Want a bet? EDs across the country tied themselves in so many knots being completely reliant on PAs, they now won’t know how to function, and will get a consultant breezing into the room taking a brief history and “differentiating” and then calling it a differentiated patient.
We were proud to be on @BBCBreakfast this morning talking about our team, @ColostomyUK and #Stomas! #upthepurps💜 #rugbyleague

Pauline’s symptoms were fobbed off as IBS for a year because of her age. By the time her bowel cancer was diagnosed it was stage 4. Her liver was full of cancer. The amount of young bowel cancer patients who have similar stories is shocking. This MUST change. #nevertooyoung
Discharged 5 years & 4 months after diagnosis of stage 3 bowel cancer - it was in my lymph nodes plus the highly undesirable B-RAF mutation. Get tested if you have something weird happening in your bowels, or even if you haven’t. I had none of the usual symptoms

‘Normalisation of deviance’ was a term used after tragic Challenger Shuttle disaster when pre-flight issues were accepted by NASA Patients on trolleys in corridors has also become ‘normalised’ Cutting corners to save time or effort is another example that can impact on safety
A giant of our clinical and academic specialty, & filled with human kindness. A champion for patients. He will be sorely missed by so many around the world. @ACPGBI and @ColorectalDis are indebted to Neil & we will make a formal statement after due thought & discussion. RIP Neil
The ever questioning @Neil_J_Smart happiest when the 🚁 is on the ground - unhappiest when he asked what if engine cuts out…so the pilot did - became a glider as he squealed “switch it back on” - Hard to believe he hated heights & flying 🤣 - so many stories #RIP mate

Smarty always said that the first thing I ever said to him was, "You're the red crochtless knicker man" which, to be fair, sounds like something I'd say! This photo will never get old 😍
Please feel free to share nice stories or photos of Neil, there’s lot of great stories coming out that can allow us to reflect and smile in such a difficult time
Our friend @Neil_J_Smart has given his final lecture, the apprentices learning from his wise words, great times, & hard work - patients getting the very best. Legacy exists in the actions of those that follow & the stories continuing to be told & yes mate, “You did good” RIP
