Truly an honor to give the NIH Director’s WALS lecture today especially as the last speaker under the leadership of @NIHDirector Dr Monica Bertagnolli

My new op-ed in the @nytimes. I argue that Iranians are caught in a state of “moral paralysis,” a psychological trap set by the Islamic Republic itself. It pits two of our most sacred values against each other: liberation vs. self-determination. (1/2) nytimes.com/2025/06/28/opi…
#GRCPsychedelics meeting this week was excellent. I learned a lot, had many meaningful conversations, and am convinced more than ever that we need to focus more effectively on forward- and back-translation in psychedelic neuroscience Thank you Alex and Vlad for organizing
Can’t believe #GRCPsychedelics is happening in two weeks! We reached capacity attendance – sorry we could not accommodate everyone. We look forward to seeing many of you at the meeting. w/ @VVyazovskiy @ViditaVaidya @MelissaHerman4
Honored and excited to take on this role, and to serve an organization that is very close to my heart "You must do the things you think you cannot do" Eleanor Roosevelt
Congratulations to our newly elected Board members: 🎉 Sandhya Koushika, Jatin Nagpal, and Ibukun Akinrinade 🎉 Chair-Elect: Bita Moghaddam Thank you to everyone who joined the ALBA General Assembly 2025! 💙 We’re grateful for your energy and insights. Onward in our mission for…
Years of #BRAINInitiative research on monitoring brain circuits led to a brain-computer-interface to enable a man with #ALS to speak and even sing again. Amazing! But this is just the beginning of advances to come from neural circuit science . nature.com/articles/d4158…
The Zohran campaign has been inspiring & is a model for us all from now on. Zohran never backed off socialist principles, but did not engage in performative ultra-leftism or scolding. Socialism is about optimism that a better world is possible, it's nice to be reminded of that.
Thank you the younger generation of Iranians for articulating what some of us geezer Iranians were thinking but not comfortable to say on social media 😅
Apparently Trump floated #MIGA as the Iran regime change hashtag without consulting a single Persian speaker. If he had, someone might’ve told him that ‘miga’ (میگا) sounds like the present continuous of ‘gayidan’ (گاییدن), which literally means ‘to fuck.’ 🤦🏻♀️
😔
Iran's state tv says casualty numbers are climbing and include women and children. The buildings targeted were residential apartment buildings where military commanders and other families lived, state tv said.
This speaks to me since I found out rather abruptly I'm not getting paid this summer...
Would normally agree but I just attended an event with Ron Johnson. He thinks the NIH is corrupt/elitist and IMO he thinks it needs to be gutted and replaced by business/philanthropic research. Are there 4 senators to block? Unclear. Plus "NIH=Fauci=bad" so low voter pressure 1/2
thebignewsletter.com/p/private-equi… This is a great breakdown of how Oregon passed a first of its kind law limiting the corporate practice of medicine. @matthewstoller
and may I add that this is not a mere "delay" as many institutions are TERMINATING these otherwise active grants if the NoA is delayed by more than 30 days because they cannot afford to keep grant supported research personnel on payroll
Jay, can you explain why practically zero $$ was given out by the NIH in May? Including already awarded grants!
Took a break from social media to do a much needed 40 days of mourning after we lost my brilliant, brave & beautiful mom More on my mom later as she single handedly instilled in me a sense of obligation but for now I must say I am super proud of Jenna Norton & NIH colleagues
🚨NSF funded folks: proactively download/print/screen shot any documentation on research.gov pertaining to your NSF awards, both those that are current and any that have closed in the last 5-6 years
Today, NSF announced it is terminating awards not aligned with agency priorities, ensuring current & new awards are consistent with our mission. We are committed to creating opportunities for all Americans everywhere, without exclusion of any groups. More: bit.ly/42NBXeh
