Wish to thank Dr. Annapurna Poduri for her contributions to NINDS as it’s Deputy Director. We look forward to her future contributions to neurological care and research as she returns to Boston Children’s Hospital.

Thanks to the American Brain Coalition, specifically Katie Sale and Jen French, the NINDS Non-Profit Forum was amazing. Checkout keynote by ex-Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton, a courageous advocate for those affected by neurological diseases; @ min 36. videocast.nih.gov/watch=56870

Join us at the 2025 Alzheimer's Association International Conference! I will be discussing ADRD funding opportunities during the ISTAART Intermission on Sunday.

Mutations occurring outside the germ line are surprisingly common but tracking them down and understanding their functional significance is difficult. The #NIH SMaHT project brings new tools and maps to the effort.
🧬 The SMaHT marker paper is now live in @Nature This landmark study characterizes somatic variation across 19 tissue types from 150 nondiseased donors, laying the groundwork for future discoveries in health, aging, and disease. Read the full paper: nature.com/articles/s4158…
Years of #BRAINInitiative research on monitoring brain circuits led to a brain-computer-interface to enable a man with #ALS to speak and even sing again. Amazing! But this is just the beginning of advances to come from neural circuit science . nature.com/articles/d4158…
Thanks to many for the years of work that led to the TBI common data elements and the new classification system. See the National Academy Event recognizing this achievement. nationalacademies.org/event/45126_06…
Looking forward to connecting with patient advocates, nonprofit leaders, and research partners at tomorrow’s #NINDS75 #Nonprofit Forum. Together, we’re building stronger partnerships to advance neurological health and research. #ABrainCoProud 🔗 bit.ly/42qimAL
BRAIN Initiative scientists discuss recent release of new tools to access specific classes of brain cells. This will help research to map, monitor and modulate brain activity, understand the circuits that make us human, and treat brain disorders. braininitiative.nih.gov/news-events/bl…
Michigan becomes the 5th State to make it mandatory to report cases of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This will enable tracking of cases, identify hot spots, and hopefully lead to clues as to the cause of this tragic neurological disorder. bit.ly/45aZlnF
Very interesting poll results from Research America on how Americans feel about science and health. Sadly, only 6 in 10 think the work of scientists benefits all or most of America. A call that we need to do better as a science community. bit.ly/3ZkQex0
The registration for #virtual participation for the #NINDS non profit forum is open.
Please register for the annual #NINDS Non Profit Forum for a wonderful discussion on how to get to treatments for a host of neurological disorders. The Forum is always a highlight of the year. book.passkey.com/event/51039366…

#NIH #RECOVER #pediatrics project releases data on the characteristics of young children suffering months after an acute #COVID infection. The challenge now is to learn how to help these children with #LongCovid, likely numbering in the many thousands. jamanetwork.com/journals/jamap…
#NIH released call for proposals to explore data sets to identify associations of genes, omics, exposures, events in pregnancy and peri-partum period, and other features associated with diagnosis or course of #Autism. See dpcpsi.nih.gov/autism-data-sc…. Due date is 6/27!!!
Nodules in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG) in persons with diabetes described 100 years ago but little followup. #NIH HEAL Initiative study of human DRG in painful diabetic neuropathy suggests they might be root cause of pain. nature.com/articles/s4146…

May 20th is Nat'l Clinical Trials Day. Commemorating the 1st randomized clinical study-278 years ago in sailors with scurvy. This gold standard clinical evidence led to so many beneficial interventions and prevented so many harmful ones. Thanks to the thousands of subjects.
