It is hard to get your head around how stupendously large an electricity user a 2-5 gigawatt data center represents. A 5 gigawatt data center consumes on the order of 40 million megawatt-hours of electricity per year, as much electricity as the ENTIRE STATE of Nevada or Kansas!
"We project that 2GW and 5GW data centers will be needed to develop single advanced AI models for Anthropic in 2027 and 2028, respectively. With several other U.S. companies developing frontier AI models, we expect total frontier AI training demands in America to reach 20-25GW in…
reposting a deleted tweet more clearly: the parts of this ep where a guest makes assertions about the origin & ideals of abundance in SF are factually incorrect. they defended Airbnb, opposed rent control, & displayed deep hostility to redlined communities facing displacement
The Abundance debate and discussion you didn’t know you needed w @IsabellaMWeber, @BigMeanInternet, @PEWilliams_. The book; the discourse; the underlying economic and political questions; the actual but mystified capitalist social relations. Bringing light, not heat. Link below👇

Secretary of Energy Chris Wright has also been a hit with the Abundance crowd. Politico described his nomination as attracting unlikely friends including “the loose coalition of analysts and writers pushing for an ‘abundance agenda.’”
Evelyn from the Lending Union west coast branch, you are my sworn enemy. nowhere is safe
whoops!
The Trump White House is explicitly signaling its alignment with the abundance movement. When it comes to energy, seems like there’s very little difference between MAGA prescriptions and Thompson/Yglesias prescriptions. Profoundly horrible.
The White House has a new AI Inaction Plan, which cedes the future of AI to Big Tech oligarchy interests at the expense of the rest of us. So we've teamed up with a group of truly excellent public interest organizations & experts to call for a People's AI Action Plan.
The 90+ organizations supporting a People's AI Action Plan all have concrete, actionable ideas for an AI agenda that furthers the interests of everyday people and challenges the tech billionaire agenda we’ll see from the White House. Learn more about them: peoplesaiaction.com

When you steal from rich people it's theft. When you steal from regular people, it's innovation.
2. Anthropic's CEO says that AI may 'cure cancer' but also eliminate entry-level jobs. Policymakers need to get a hold of that, he says. Weird he doesn't want to talk about how his firm's models are trained on massively pirated content. thebignewsletter.com/p/why-are-we-p…

Things have gotten so out of control that the left-leaning third-place candidate WHO WAS PROBABLY DROPPED FROM THE RACE DUE TO THE ERROR has now released a statement admitting he got screwed… and then declaring he wouldn’t challenge the result, and attacking the people who did.
cannot emphasize enough how crazy it is that none of this oppo was done and turned into ads ahead of the election
