“It is pretty disgusting to put the blame on autism, a condition managed by over 700,000 people each year in this country without groping or embarrassing the people they work with.” @TrevorPTweets gives his reaction to the BBC firing Greg Wallace. #TimesRadio
Just El Greco doing his never-been-seen-before-or-since thing. One of the most original painters in Western art (the most?). ‘Adoration of the Name of Jesus’, (detail) late 1570s, Spanish Royal Collection.

Tremendous festival, and Gloucester cathedral to visit too.
OH. MY. GOODNESS!!!!!! This is the best lineup we have EVER had for @GlosHistFest !!! I’m so excited! Make sure to book early as this will be a sell out….
A crime & a coverup. Trump was at least adjacent to a massive, repulsive criminal enterprise. As president Trump is directing the coverup of this enterprise. Six months into his term, almost no one expected the Epstein case to pose a grave threat to his presidency. But it does.

Increasingly see ‘Cauliflower’ offered as a main course in restaurants. Not sure it reflects well on the state of the nation…
Can you believe that just a few months ago Vance came to Europe and lectured us about free speech?
In just the last day, Colbert was cancelled, PBS and NPR were defunded, and Trump threatened to sue even conservative outlets like the Wall Street Journal and NewsCorp over revelations related to Epstein. It sure looks like an open attempt at authoritarian control of the media.
For a nation whose visual culture was very largely created by immigrants, this seems daft, even by Home Office standards. List includes "artists, sculptors, picture restorers, hand-drawing animators, glass and ceramics makers, art technicians."

This starts tonight, with dashingly tweeded Mart Gatiss.
We're getting very excited about #Bookish; a brand new detective series from @Markgatiss and @DrMatthewSweet. The series starts this Wednesday, 8PM, @alibi_channel. More info: uandalibi.co.uk
Good obituary for Prof. John Charmley in The Times. (Though he'd have regarded being 'controversial' as one of the first tasks of any decent historian). thetimes.com/uk/obituaries/….

Thank you to @BuxtonFestival for a superbly organised session this morning, and thanks to the sell out crowd who came!

I’m in Buxton, to do a turn at their International Festival. Fine town!

More essential wisdom from James Marriott: “Nobody is more intensely preoccupied with the future than the pessimist”. True!
The Times have allowed me to print the distilled essence of my life philosophy - I wrote this about why everyone should be a pessimist. thetimes.com/comment/column…
BBC exec 1: ‘What day shall we start letting AI write the news?’ BBC exec 2: ‘The same day we lead our own bulletins with not one but two stories about BBC execs not doing their job properly?’ Exec 1: ‘Perfect.’
Had missed this, but the BBC has published its first AI-assisted summary on its website - on the Salt Path story. It was reviewed and edited by a journalist before appearing. H/t @clarespencer.
Start with a Capital Gains Tax on the sale of the most expensive houses. Hypothecate it to build social housing. The beneficiaries of house price inflation should help younger generations for whom housing has become unaffordable.
There is “zero chance” of Rachel Reeves being able to implement a wealth tax at the budget, says the author of the main report proposing the idea That’s because it’d take years to collect data on who should pay Top story by @FreyaLamorna bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
didn’t think epstein files were such a big deal until president trump posted this
