Behind the Assam gov’s latest forced transfer of suspected “foreigners” to Bangladesh is a longer history of ethno-religious marginalisation & disenfranchisement of Bengali minorities in the state. My piece for the latest issue of @frontline_india : frontline.thehindu.com/politics/assam…
Rest in peace & power, Ravi Hemadri (@ravihemadri). A giant in the Indian social justice community, Ravi's commitment to helping the marginalised & creating a fairer world remained unshaken till the very end. We will continue to fight for a more just world in your name, Ravi.

A prime example of majoritarian consciousness that people like @sankrant are indoctrinated into. Blame everything wrong with our own society on colonialism. Zero introspection.
A prime example of colonial consciousness. Everything has to be, perversely, explained by the set templates of Western theory people like @angshuman_ch are indoctrinated into. I mean who really needs to think or gather any data when "majority bad" is the answer?
Cheap labour without political rights or social security – that’s what India’s dominant middle class wants its ethnolinguistic minorities to be reduced to. Once again, Assam was the earliest reflection of this perverse form of class-cum-ethnic majoritarianism.
“Maid and cook vanished suddenly. What’s going on [in Gurgaon]?”
Imagine the outrage if these Bangla speaking people were from CR Park, not from a slum in Gurgaon.
Amidst nationwide crackdown against ‘suspected foreign’ nationals, 100s of Bangla speaking migrant workers detained in Gurugram in what police calls “holding centres.” I and @alishan_jafri report from the ground.
A clear countrywide pattern has emerged: the BJP gov is arbitrarily picking up & detaining working class Bengali Muslims on charges of being 'illegal Bangladeshis' *despite them producing ID proof*. Imp story by @alishan_jafri & Shruti Sharma. thewire.in/rights/gurugra…
1000s of migrant workers are fleeing the city. They are going back to Assam and West Bengal. Police say they are not being detained but just held in “holding centres.” Somehow, “Gurugram city is getting dirty” gets more media attention and public outrage.

No one knows why he killed her, but the second an honour killing theory is propounded the Hindutva lot treat him like a hero. Disgusting. Hindutva will unwind every single hard won freedom women in this country have gained in the last century.

Excellent, much-needed profile of Meitei “climate activist”, Licypriya Kangujam, and how she was strategically used by her father – a man jailed for fraud – for clout & political traction.
The con, his daughter - touted as the youngest child climate activist in the world - with the artist and dad, KK Singh, who launched Licypriya as a buffer against his scams and then mixed her up in right wing ethno nationalist politics. For @readlux lux-magazine.com/article/climat…
Washington Post tracked down two of the three Indians who were among the 78 people detained in Gujarat and later thrown into sea near Sundarbans. @scroll_in had reported that three Indians were pushed off boats into Bangaladesh in May after being detained in Gujarat.

Why proving identity in flood-prone states like Assam & Bihar becomes a double whammy for marginalised communities. Watch the full interview with @alishan_jafri for @thewire_in here: youtu.be/Blze38SrWrM?si…
