Air filters in hospitals reduce infections, but when patients and staff don’t understand their benefits, they are being turned off! We need quieter, more effective filters AND a public campaign to highlight their protective, lifesaving impact. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
Following the 🇺🇸 election result, Pistorius 🇩🇪is coming to Paris this evening to meet 🇫🇷 minister Lecornu Good But why not also 🇬🇧 Healey and 🇵🇱 Kosiniak-Kamysz? This isn't just about France and Germany
Macron has just spoken to Scholz. But this can't be just a Franco-German conversation. If Europe is to step up, France needs to talk to the UK and to Poland x.com/EmmanuelMacron…
Trump’s re-election is a global earthquake, and some of the strongest shocks will be felt in the UK and Europe. These are the three big reasons 1.The UK and Europe are too dependent on the US military and its defence industry at a time when Putin’s land grab in Ukraine…
Indeed. If Europe wants to step up for freedom and democracy independently from the Transatlantic bonds too, Georgia is literally where to begin with right now.
The whole of Europe is calling with one voice for taking more responsability in its hands. The first challenge is Georgia: Europe must have a clear and steady policy and not accept challenges to democracy supported by Russia.
Maybe time now for Britain to rejoin the EU? *Ducks away…*
Lesson for Starmer and Reeves from Trump is if Britons feel worse off in 2029 then Labour is toast.
The thing about leopards is eventually they will eat you too. Your favorite local restaurant closing because the nice family who owns it getting deported. You thought they were some of the “good ones.” The price of produce skyrocketing even before the camps are built as…
Likely Trump victory spells smiles in Moscow & Pyongyang leadership but my heart cries for the people of Ukraine facing these tyrants on the battlefield. Europe must get its act together on strategic autonomy as its security & defence cannot solely rely on a US led NATO alliance.
True. Now Europe has to do everything it did not do very fast: 1. Seize the Russian sovereign assets to finance Ukraine! 2. Give Ukraine all relevant arms, notably German Taurus! 3. Arm!
Europe had over two years to defend Ukraine with Biden behind us. We wasted them, and now may have to defend Ukraine with Trump behind Russia. That’s not American voters’ fault, it’s European leaders’ fault.
Trump's election is a disaster for Ukraine and for Eastern Europe. It is a disaster for the US and world economies b/c of tariffs. It is a disaster for the rule of law in the US. A disaster for civility in public square. And on and on. @BillKristol @JoeNBC @mattklewis @RobGeorge
Good thread, and this is a crucial tweet. Trump will almost certainly claim to offer the UK a better trade deal than the EU. It almost certainly won't be. But if there is even a hint the UK will accept, the EU will be more suspicious of a reset. Hence, don't try to be too clever.
Maybe. But one senior UK diplomat sees an alternative scenario. Trump hates the EU but quite likes the UK. He could offer the Brits a privileged position (fewer tariffs?) in Europe so long as they differentiate themselves from the EU - and don't line up closely with it. /5
“I've witnessed something that I feel is extremely bad, not just for the United States, but for all of us in the world.” Scientists around the world expressed disappointment and alarm as Republican Donald Trump has secured a second term go.nature.com/3UEdHa2

The mood in Kyiv is miserable this morning with Ukrainians in disbelief. I don’t blame them. Putin has been bombing them for years and waging war on the entire west and he just got his favourite candidate elected. It is so unbelievably depressing that the states is now basically…
With the geopolitical shock of a likely Trump win the UK needs to move immediately back closer to our European allies- including reopening the issue of the single market
The UK immediately needs to: - Increase defence spending rapidly (rather than shrinking its army) - Focus its military strategy on deterring Russian aggression in Europe (rather than confronting ‘global threats’) - Work with European allies to defend Europe under a NATO that…
The biggest story of the night is Russia calling multiple bomb threats into Democratic strongholds across the country. This should shock every American to the core.
Grey foggy day in London but nice to be walking into a progressive Parliament this morning. Strong coffee all round. ☕️
