Steve Rotheram, Labour mayor of Liverpool city region, tells me he is deeply critical of Keir Starmer’s decision to appoint the former editor of the Sun newspaper to a new Whitehall perm sec position in charge of all 7,000 civil servants engaged in communications and PR. He says…
When world-leading economists argue that the UK needs a wealth tax our Govt should listen. History tells us ambition is possible and preferable; that the UK can be world leading. @Keir_Starmer be ambitious for our country - tax us, the super rich theguardian.com/business/2025/…
Schrodinger’s Doctor … simultaneously too important to be able to strike but not important enough to be paid more than their assistants.
Doctors hold lives in their hands. No one should lose critical healthcare because of strikes but that’s what’s happening now. That’s why a Conservative government led by me would ban doctors’ strikes, just like we do the army and police.
NHS management just dislikes doctors- but can't run the health service without them. What a wonderful quirk of irony.

There are people on this train who have paid nearly £200 to stand in the aisle for 5 hours and they’ll still get in over 2 hours late. Last year the train companies paid out £246million to shareholders. Great system, seems fine.
I actually think it’s great that John Major’s conservative government privatised the rail system in the 90s in such a way that companies operated the services and made all the money but the state still owns the network and is responsible for all the problems. Works really well 👍🏻

Amazes me that people can have millions of pounds, cushy job for life, Lordship, literally wildest dreams stuff. And they get angry and bitter about a prole having a glass of booze that probably cost <£10. It's really not enough to succeed for them, others have to suffer.
That's very inspiring, Chris. What sort of champagne is your favourite? Are all doctors entitled to champagne? Are taxpayers's entitled to champagne, or is it just for doctors?
Hereditary Peer trolling a A&E Consultant who is working on the frontline because he happened to have a profile picture with a champagne flute Same @JimBethell who was profiteering from PPE deals during height of COVID & now trying to profiteer from AI supposedly replacing Drs

Fun fact: £1bn would cover the cost of full pay restoration

Fun facts…£1billion buys a lot of champagne (with enough left over for a new phone)
