My book, Harvests of Liberation, is officially out with @stanfordpress. It offers an account of decolonization in Egypt through the history of cotton/capitalism. Excerpts available here: sup.org/books/middle-e…
As a longtime humanitarian who has battled famines and hunger crises, I fear that starvation in Gaza has now passed the tipping point and we are going to see mass-scale starvation mortality. A thread on famine momentum, famine response, and what it means for Gaza today.
Doctors and health officials report wave of hunger deaths in Gaza on.ft.com/46iUoK6
“If Israel wanted to do it, every child could have breakfast tomorrow. Starvation doesn’t just happen. Starvation is what some people do to other people. And whenever we see a child starving, we need to ask who is responsible.” — Alex de Waal, a leading expert on famine and…
It’s Day 8 of Gaza surviving on nothing but salt and water. My ribcage is visible now, our bodies are fading like everything else we’ve lost. Our homes are gone. Our families torn apart. Even our flesh is being stripped away. We are starving, grieving, heartbroken, & forgotten.
The famine in Gaza is indescribable, with hunger devastating the people as flour, rice, sugar, baby formula, and drinking water have vanished, all under a brutal blockade and global silence that amounts to complicity in the extermination of an entire population.
A reminder of a few other famous Israeli fabrications: 1. Nov. 2023: Rantisi hospital calendar hoax
Once again, Israel's talking points, repeated by servile western media, are proven as fake news. "the Israeli military never found proof that the Palestinian militant group had systematically stolen aid from UN" archive.ph/XYyqV
More or less every single person in the US with more power than, say, Rashida Tlaib has already made peace with the destruction of Gaza and its inhabitants. Anything they say now, unless matched by action, is strictly damage control.
MSM is insanely framing Columbia’s capitulation and Gaza mass starvation as separate stories. Defenders of Israel smeared student movement protesting Israel’s extermination of Palestinians as antisemitic precisely to protect bipartisan US support for what you’re seeing right now.
My inbox is flooded with messages from loved ones in Gaza begging for a single meal of any kind to survive. Even people with some savings left can't find anything to buy. This is the worst Israel's starvation of Gaza has ever been! 10 people died from hunger yesterday alone.
When The Wall Street Journal grants its Op-Ed platform to a Mossad-linked drug trafficking and aid-snatching criminal, while denying space to respected, mainstream Palestinian voices, it lays bare how far the paper has strayed from even the pretense of editorial integrity. 🧵
That the WSJ gives an op-ed to Yasser Abu Shabab is insane. Completely and utterly insane. Western media has shown its whole arse.
“In my entire career I have never witnessed the level of brutality and use of indiscriminate and unnecessary force against a civilian population, an unarmed starving population." youtube.com/watch?v=72aZhs…
The Israelis did not fail to plan. They planned very specifically to cut off food and then when re-opening it, to control it militarily and have 4 aid sites for 2 million people. This was a well thought out plan agreed to at the highest levels. Stop saying Israel didn’t plan
NYT's morning newsletter parroting @PatrickKingsley's absurd and deliberately credulous "failure to plan" framing. It wasn't the open pronouncements by Israeli officials they were cutting off food, or the bombing of and propaganda against UNRWA, guys, they just neglected to PLAN!
Let it be remembered that the world leaders, lawmakers and journalists finally talking about starvation in Gaza did so when it was too late to reverse the effects of famine and malnutrition and too many have already died of hunger.
Our children are being incinerated by this monstrous regime, and the world watches in apathy, completely unable to at least push for a ceasefire. All we’re asking for is to stop burning, maiming, and incinerating our children, you fucking ghouls. Monsters.

Israel is Minutely Engineering the Famine in Gaza @MouinRabbani, co-editor of Jadaliyya and a former UN official who worked as a special adviser on Israel-Palestine for the International Crisis Group, talks about how famine and starvation in Gaza is "minutely designed and…
Israel announces plans to build a concentration camp in Gaza, says its aim is to remove Palestinians from Gaza, lies about "negotiating" in good faith & when the Palestinian side takes "negotiations" seriously, Israel blows up the deal and the US/Israel blame Hamas. Same pattern.
We have decided to bring our team home from Doha for consultations after the latest response from Hamas, which clearly shows a lack of desire to reach a ceasefire in Gaza. While the mediators have made a great effort, Hamas does not appear to be coordinated or acting in good…
Israel: We are banning UNRWA, expelling UN officials, restricting UN staff travel, killing more than 200 UN staff, ordering the evacuation of UN HQ in Deir-al-Bala, firing at UN trucks Also Israel: Why is the UN starving Gaza? NYT: This shows how complex a dilemma it is
The last time the WFP tried to deliver aid, on July 20, the IDF opened fire on aid seekers who swarmed the trucks, killing many. On July 21, they paused deliveries so as not to get more people killed by the IDF. We all watched Israel lead a global campaign to shut down UNRWA…

A few notes on the state of the Gaza "ceasefire" negotiations. Hamas has now submitted its response to the Israeli-crafted framework and Netanyahu responded by announcing he would recall his negotiating team from Doha. Israel has been pushing a narrative via leaks to mostly…
