I have a belief that there are things worth conserving in this world, make what you can of it.
Getting back to writing after a two-year gap. Here's my review of Jugalbandi by Vinay Sitapati: open.substack.com/pub/somethingo… Do give it a read!

emaining year will be spent running, reading, and working. See you around folks!
Class of 2011 didn’t learn from the Class of 1977, and Class of 2025 won’t learn from Class of 2011. India has seen many such politicians. Incentives change once power is gained, and it will be no different for Prashant Kishor, who has shown no exceptional talent for governance.
If I were voting in Bihar I would vote for Jan Suraaj. Prashant Kishor is the only inspiring and important Indian leader I have seen since I became a political columnist decades ago. We need a hundred more like him.
We live in an era where a person with no scientific background scanned the internet & debunked the non-lab origin theory of the coronavirus, forcing reputed scientists to eat their words. Don’t let anyone tell you that history & its study are monopoly of only those with degrees.
I do believe Shastri died unnaturally in Tashkent. He had hinted at economic liberalization in his speeches leading up to the war, and it’s no surprise he wasn’t favored by the Soviets. It’s also well known that Indira’s subsequent government was bankrolled by them.
What's a conspiracy theory you believe with your whole heart?
Haha, when your own degree is the homeopathic equivalent of history, maybe skip throwing stones at others.
People with actual history degrees.
For those who don't come from an English-speaking milieu, reading & finishing a novel can feel intimidating. For me, the mental barrier only broke when I read Goosebumps as a teenager. They made me believe that I could also read and finish a book. So, these books do help.
people be reading these books and then calling themselves readers
The very first chapter is so enlightening and beautifully written. Every sentence is followed by a clear reasoning behind it. I can't wait to read the rest of the book
Next up, Karthika Muralidharan's Accelerating India's Development. I have been wanting to read this one ever since it came out. It is a thick book may take a while to finish.
I agree with this. All north Indians should be made to learn one south Indian language of their choice at the school level. It is a great way to integrate, increase cultural exchange and create more employment opportunities. Corporates should also provide classes.
Fine, ask all the North Hindians to learn our 4 classical Dravidian languages - Telugu, Tamil, Kannada & Malayalam. And then, ask us to learn Hindi.

Bought a Kindle again after losing the last one at a friend's engagement two years ago. My habit of carrying it everywhere as a totem against everything anxiety-inducing is making a return. Bought a cover and tempered glass for it to make it official.
There should be a separate book on how Brajesh Mishra came to exercise and wield so much power in the PMO. I remember reading that he preferred to give oral instructions to avoid unnecessary controversies. Truly a fascinating figure from this period of our polity.

It is because India was offering an older version of the defence system. India has a newer version Akash-NG, which Brazil wanted. Given our reluctance to share the newer system, the deal fell through. Our air defence systems have already proven their worth 2 months ago.
Brazil has officially cancelled, deal to acquire India’s Akash Air defence system, citing concerns over poor accuracy and outdated technology.👏
A well maintained car should be thrown out after 10yrs but a poorly maintained Bridge shouldn't be rebuilt even after 40yrs

Tariffs are not paid by the country on which they are imposed, but by the importer. So, Bangladesh will either route its produce through another country, or the importer will find an alternative source that is not subject to tariffs.
USA taking 35% tariff from Bangladesh 🤣
This is neither kind to those who suffer from real mental illnesses nor a proper critique of what is truly wrong with those who undertake the yatra for personal rather than spiritual gain.
Kanwar Yatra is mental illness and idiocy.
