Conflicts that end through negotiated settlements, like the one in Somalia, require consolidation through consultation, negotiation, and compromise. The key fact is that no group could achieve total military victory. Therefore, since the establishment of the third republic in…
The game was buying time and now they added numbing tactics "willing to return 2012 Constitution" while the Villa is continuing it's agenda for an election which the result itself been planned. I doubt if they can fool you. Unless you are shying from the fact.
Thanks professor Afyare for illuminating the miserable political landscape of our country and rising critical questions as you always do. However, at this particular juncture I'm not optimistic anymore. Things are getting worse.
Respect to all sides for choosing the path of dialogue over division.
Thanks professor Afyare
It is encouraging to see positive developments in the engagement between government and opposition politicians on divisive issues. Responding to pressure, the government has initiated dialogue, proposing a forum at Villa Somalia with four agenda items, all of which the opposition…
President @HassanSMohamud deserves recognition for initiating direct dialogue with the opposition without the involvement of the so-called G6+, a bold and mature step that has already yielded constructive outcomes.
Prof. Afyare, the play is almost over & the last scene is about to begin. HSM wants 1P1V as a religious right without going through the proper procedure to get there without realising that he is fighting a losing battle. HSM is self-righteous & believes rules don't apply to him.
Dialogue has never been part of political culture in resolving political discord in Somalia. The winner takes all sits in the psyche of all political elites and this administration is playing the same game. Good luck to those who thinks otherwise.
I very much doubt HSM will return to 2012 constitution as he invested a lot of effort, resources and above all emotional energy into the new constitution. If he does that, it is the end of HSM, politically; or to the best he becomes a lame duck.
The opposition has made significant progress. After months of the president refusing to meet with anyone, including MSF leaders, they have now reached a deal. Now, he has agreed to support the return to the 2012 Constitution. It’s big step for forward democracy. I hope so.
That is the only out of the crises.

Political stability is key to Somalia’s future—without it, lasting statehood, development, and peace remain out of reach. Stability builds trust and strengthens institutions
With all respect @afyare_elmi you are looking at the bright side of things as usual but things are just the usual political game of manipulation by @HassanSMohamud .How you would say? First the Pres main Agenda is to convince the opposition to permit his so called 1man 1vote so…
It is not difficult to understand the dynamics, Mohamed. Read the literature written on it and on state-building. Just ignore the rhetoric of politicians.
As a young Somali man raised in the diaspora trying to understand the political dynamics of Somalia. I cannot understand how we let this bullshit play out for 30years. 1 man 1 vote while the country is in a blackhole? The Ethiopian fiasco.
