Everyone says enhanced geothermal is the next fracking. That's only a little "bit" true. The shale fracking boom was a product of its unique market structure. Enhanced geothermal is very different. Latest from me at CPE—here's what a geothermal boom *really* requires:

CHART OF THE DAY: America has an electricity problem. Retail power costs in the US are rising very, very quickly (>35% over the last 5 years) — in some part due to expensive grid investment. My @Opinion colleague @liamdenning has the details here: bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…
Mass layoffs in the US power sector begin following the Big Beautiful Bill: -20% RIF yesterday at New Leaf Energy -15% RIF today at Pine Gate Renewables -Enel suggesting potential exit from US renewable market More likely to come, along with project delays and cancellations
The “race to build X” discourse is fun because if one country is first to build or install a bunch of X capacity, what exactly are folks claiming it means for those who are 2nd, 3rd, 17th, etc? Or about the first mover’s future income? We always need better theory.
get this old world shit out of here lmaoooo
I think if your family has hundreds of years of history in America you are frankly more American than somebody who migrated to America in 2015.
NEW from me, on Kathy Hochul's atomic abundance. Last month she made an exciting announcement of new nuclear development in New York State. Unlike other governors, she is directly appealing to state capacity - the public power authority, NYPA - to drive it. It's a big deal. 🧵1/
Wrangling over the construction of nuclear power in New York State has revealed the priorities of some of the state’s biggest environmental lobbies. For them, creating bureaucratic procedures they can oversee is more important than building clean energy. jacobin.com/2025/07/hochul…
Electricity prices may spike? I thought inflation was over? [Checks notes] I'm now being informed electricity inflation is running at >10% annualized rate since Jan. As a mild suggestion, if you're interested in boosting electricity output, don't try to block transmission
Electricity prices may spike due to AI demand if US doesn't boost energy output, White House warns foxbusiness.com/politics/elect…
more disrespect to baseball at the reindustrialization summit... most un-american thing i've ever seen, what the hell is happening up there
disrespectful to wind turbines AND baseball: the batter isn't even standing on a plate and the turbines aren't organized on the hill coherently perfect metaphor for conservatism: look too closely and nothing they want makes sense! also this is ai generated sooooo
it should probably be a bigger news story that republican state senators are about to functionally destroy Philadelphia’s transit system
For the 1st time since the mid-20th c, a major urban US transit network is going to be largely destroyed. Philadelphia’s SEPTA must cut 45% of service, NEXT MONTH. 45% is not “waste fraud and abuse.” It’s “would you like to keep your heart or your lungs?” Link in 1st reply.
Governor Hochul has 3 choices next year: Kick millions off Medicaid Cut every Medicaid service to the bone and hope people don't die Raise taxes on the ultra wealthy by a marginal amount Which will she go with???
The primary energy agenda is maximal obstruction of the nation’s fastest-growing resources @politico
