On 18 June 1984, the violent clashes at Orgreave and the discredited evidence that followed left lasting scars on the community. This autumn, a public inquiry will begin to uncover the truth, holding those responsible to account and helping to restore confidence in policing.
All my thoughts are with the parents and loved ones whose children were involved in the school coach crash in Somerset. It is heartbreaking to learn that a child has sadly died. Thank you to all the emergency services working to respond to this awful tragedy.
I'm deeply saddened by the passing of Lord Ian Blair. He was a hugely dedicated public servant from his early years as a Constable in London's West End to his 4 years as Met Commissioner, and a true champion of neighbourhood & community policing. My thoughts are with his family

Since small boat crossings began, returning people to France who have arrived in the UK illegally has not been possible. Now it is with this groundbreaking deal.
Today we remember the 52 who lost their lives, the loved ones they left behind and all those injured and affected by the horrific 7/7 attacks. We remember too the bravery of fellow passengers & emergency services, the determination of our country to stand together against hate.

Twenty years on from the 7/7 attacks, we remember all those whose lives were lost and those whose lives were changed forever. We honour the bravery of the first responders, and the strength of the survivors. Those who try to divide us will always fail.
77 years on, the contributions of the Windrush generations remain a vital thread in the fabric of British society. Home Secretary @YvetteCooperMP and Minister @SeemaMalhotra1 joined community leaders at Downing Street to mark the anniversary of HMT Empire Windrush's arrival.

The act of vandalism committed at RAF Brize Norton is disgraceful. Our Armed Forces represent the very best of Britain and put their lives on the line for us every day. It is our responsibility to support those who defend us.
The Tories just voted AGAINST measures to crack down on: - Knife crime - Child criminal exploitation - Antisocial behaviour - Violence against women and girls
The scenes emerging of a London-bound plane carrying many British nationals crashing in the Indian city of Ahmedabad are devastating. I am being kept updated as the situation develops, and my thoughts are with the passengers and their families at this deeply distressing time.

Under the Tories overseas recruitment shot up while UK training was cut - a failed free-market experiment which quadrupled net migration in 4years. Tomorrow’s White Paper will restore control to the immigration system, bring down net migration & boost skills & training in the UK
If you come to the UK, you must abide by our laws.
Deeply saddened to hear of the death of His Holiness Pope Francis. His tireless efforts to promote a world that is fairer for all will leave a lasting legacy. On behalf of the people of the United Kingdom, I share my sincerest condolences to the whole Catholic Church.
Delighted to welcome @AntoniaRomeoUK to the Home Office as our new Permanent Secretary. She brings extensive leadership experience from across government to this crucial role. I look forward to working with her to deliver the government’s Plan for Change.

I know how important steel is, not just to Scunthorpe but to the whole country — it's part of our pride and heritage. My government is acting in the national interest to secure its future, protecting British jobs and British workers.
