Our walk to look at the vernacular buildings of the Upper Holme Valley scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed due to the weather warnings, hopefully to be rearranged on a day without risk of torrential rain and thunderstorms!

#AdoorableThursday Barn door at Brackenbottom, Ribblesdale, North Yorkshire.

Now speculating whether we might have that rare thing - genuine ships' timbers reused in a building - in Filey Museum building. A purlin and ceiling beam look decidedly mast-like, and other timbers have a multitude of pegholes difficult to explain in a house. Just need proof now!

Looking forward to our next event, a walk around the vernacular buildings of the Upper Holme Valley on Saturday. We'll explore the landscape and will see farmhouses, handloom weavers' cottages, agricultural buildings and small scale industrial buildings. yvbsg.org.uk/events.html.

Excellent day at the coast on Saturday recording Filey Museum whilst it's closed for refurbishment. Ground floor of calcareous sandstone, upper storey brick. Datestone of 1696, described in Pevsner as the most ornate in the East Riding. Formerly a farmhouse with farmyard at rear.

The Old Post Office in Malham, North Yorkshire. Listed as 18th century, possibly heightened & given new windows. Lovely old postbox, now replaced. @GrimArtGroup @YorksVernacular @VArchGroup #ArchitecturalIllustration #drawing
Online talk coming up on an intriguing subject ...
I've been asked to do an online talk on Burn Marks in Historic Buildings on 2 July by @CentreMyth I'll be looking at why these are so common on timber-frames and whether they are the result of accidents or if they are the result of fears about evil... folkloremythmagic.com/event-details/…
