#OnThisDay in 1817, Jane Austen was buried inside Winchester Cathedral, six days after she died. Her funeral was attended by three of her brothers, and one of her nephews. Visitors still travel worldwide to pay their respects at Jane Austen's grave inside the cathedral.

In loving memory of our dear Cathedral Chaplain, Canon Gary Philbrick, who died a year ago today. In the Guardian Angels chapel today you'll find a framed photo of Canon Gary alongside a candle. All are welcome to visit the chapel for prayer and reflection as we remember him.

#StSwithunsDay The vestment on the left is the St Swithun Cope. It was made for Bishop Garbett (later Archbishop of York), and worn by him at the coronation of George VI. The hood depicts the apples and raindrops associated with the legend of St Swithun 🍏🌧️

Today marks #StSwithunsDay One of St Swithun's most famous miracles tells of a simple act of human kindness to a poor woman. When crossing the bridge, she was jostled and dropped her basket of eggs. The saint took pity on her – and made her broken eggs whole.

The College of Canons Evensong with Installation of a Companion of St Swithun will take place at 5.30pm tomorrow. Nigel Atkinson Esq. (pictured) will be installed as a Companion of St Swithun. All are welcome to attend in-person or online via live stream. @hantsconnect

Today at 10.00am the Foundation Day Eucharist will take place. Everyone is welcome to attend this occasion where the Cathedral receives its charge from the Bishop of Winchester, The Rt Revd Philip Mounstephen, as ‘the seat of the Bishop and a centre of worship and mission’.

Today the Friends of Winchester Cathedral Evensong will take place at 4.30pm. This service will include a farewell to Bruce Parker as Chairman of the Friends, and installation of The Reverend Canon Charles Stewart as a Companion of St Swithun. All are welcome to attend.
