Mesoscopic Physics of Life (MPol) - Weber Group
@WebersGroup
Research group of Prof. Dr. Christoph Weber @uni__augsburg. We develop theories for intracellular organization and the molecular origin of life.
You can find us here @m-pol.bsky.social 😀
Meet our newest editor! 👋 Christopher Weber is a professor at @uni__augsburg, where he leads @WebersGroup in the developing theories for intracellular organization and the molecular origin of life. He will handle manuscripts on these topics as well as biomolecular condensates.
We're thrilled to announce an open PhD position on exploring controlling condensate membrane attachment and exocytosis! Collaborate across Europe in the ComeInCell EU network. Apply now! Details: comeincell.org & ru.nl/en/working-at/…
Thrilled to announce more invited speakers for #BiologicalPhysics at #DPGR25: @PhilipTinnefeld, Christoph @WebersGroup, Heiko Rieger and Benoit Ladoux will share insights from single-molecule detection to tissue mechanics. Submit your abstract by Dec 1, 2024, to join us!
Congratulations to everyone of the CRC that's part of this year's ERC Synergy Grant! Great work! 🎉🎉
📣 Results of the 2024 ERC Synergy Grant competition are out! 57 research groups won a total of €571 million in #ERCSyG funding, enabling them to pool diverse expertise & resources to push the frontiers of knowledge. 👉 europa.eu/!bmpNW9 🇪🇺#EUfunded #FrontierResearch

RT appreciated: My lab is recruiting several Ph.D.s and Postdocs excited to build synthetic cells that undergo Darwinian evolution. The backgrounds that we need for include biochemistry, synthetic biology, and systems chemistry. Details: boekhovenlab.com/openings/
What sets the size of active droplets? Which factors affect their ripening and facilitate division? Why is Jonathan so smart? In a project with @jona_baue himself, the @WebersGroup Frank Jülicher and @BoekhovenLab we delve into these profound questions arxiv.org/abs/2409.03629
Happy to highlight the work of @JuditSastre3 and Advait Thatte from the @WebersGroup! We found spontaneous oscillations in synthetic cells. When continuously supplied with chemical fuel, the number of organelles and their location start oscillating. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
We are happy to have presented our work at the MOM2024! Thanks for all the engaging discussions and for my students who have presented their work during the poster session. 🧬 🎉 @CRC392MolEvo

Another year, another #MOM24. Thanks for a great conference!
And with that the #MOM24 comes to an end. Thanks again to all the speakers and students that presented their work here. It was a pleasure to have you here and we hope to see you again next year! 🧬🎉
The second day of the MOM24 has just started and we're looking forward to many great talks today.☀️
Thanks a lot for having me at Harvard Applied Math and Engineering. I enjoyed my talk, the interactions with colleagues and friends, and the meetings with group members from @Mahadevan_Lab

Our paper on the interplay between phase separation and biomolecular assembly has been brought to @eLife! elifesciences.org/reviewed-prepr… Thanks @HaugerudIvar, @WebersGroup and @MichaelsLabETH! Video: the volume fraction of assemblies of size i evolve in two coexisting phases
We are looking for two #postdocs to join us: 1) @ERC_Research funded position in the context of RNA origami, cryoEM, synthetic cells, directed evolution; 2) A position in the excellence cluster @Cluster3DMM2O at the interface of chemistry & biology. Please share and get in touch!
@susanne_liese gave an amazing talk in the physics colloquium today at @uni__augsburg! 👏🏻
Together with @SharmaGroupSPoL, TPII earned second place in the Physics Institute Cup at @uni__augsburg ⚽️🥅

Interested in how chemical reactions are regulated by condensates? We derived a general theoretical framework when reacting clients are diluted and scaffolds phase separate. Great collaboration with @LahaSudarshana @mpi_pks @MichaelsLabETH Preprint see: arxiv.org/abs/2403.05228

We are hiring! Please consider a PhD in a four year running multi-disciplinary team effort.... with winter schools, monthly meetings - and state of the art lab projects on how Life could have emerged on the early Earth/other planets. Details: portal.graduatecenter.uni-muenchen.de/ocgc/crc392
