Post Doctoral Researcher @Danforthcenter. PhD @NCBS_Bangalore - TIFR, India. Enjoying the process of Science🔬.
Excited to share the second part of my Ph.D. work with @shivaprasad_pv lab @NCBS_Bangalore. Histones are sculptures of (epi)genomic architecture and we here report the histone H4 variant (H4.V) in Oryza - nature.com/articles/s4147…. @NaturePlants.
Delighted to share this. A novel H4 variant that modulates chromatin to mediate salt stress response. This mammoth work was driven to perfection by @VivekHariSunda1, a wonderful PhD student who also taught me. We report its CryoEM structure & unusual chemistry @NCBS_Bangalore 1/3
🔬 New Preprint on bioRxiv! 📄 I'm thrilled to share our latest Cryo-EM work, which shows how medin, a vascular amyloid, reshapes Aβ40 fibrils to mimic the more toxic Aβ42 polymorphs.
Preprint alert! Here is the second chapter from @AvikKumarPal1, a fantastic PhD student. We show endosperm-specific roles of OsCLSY4 chromatin remodeler especially its involvement in grain quality. Comments welcome @NCBS_Bangalore @TIFRScience @DAEIndia biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
#AwardHighlight!🏆 Steffi Raju, graduate student from @shivaprasad_pv lab was one among the ten Early Career Researchers to receive the travel award from @AABiologists to attend the International Conference on Arabidopsis Research at Ghent, Belgium 🎉Congratulations @rajusteffi1!
It has been a great week of phenomenal science and amazing discussions I am glad to receive travel award from Association of Applied Biologists @AABiologists to attend and present at #ICAR2025 Big thanks to @shivaprasad_pv, @NCBS_Bangalore, @Infy_Foundation for all the support.
#ResearchExplained! In a first, @VivekHariSunda1 & team from Dr @shivaprasad_pv's group at NCBS has identified a new H4 histone variant in rice which may have helped semi-aquatic rice varieties adapt to changing environments.🌾 Read here:bit.ly/4jNcirp By @Rupsykhurana
Latest work from the lab led by @yuhunghung in @ThePlantJournal! We engineered a RNA-binding protein to sort and protect a Cas9 transcript for long term expression! Can be applied to any engineered transcript as a UTR: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/tp…
🚨 Preprint alert!! Thrilled to share our new story where we report the discovery of a new sporophytic maternal-effect mutant in Arabidopsis. 🧵 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
The NCBS Academic Office hosted the 2nd Round of Interviews for GS-2025 Admission at NCBS between 19-21, May 2025.
Excited to share this @UCRCNAS video featuring our work! @KenchanmaneLab explores how environmental responses evolve—cell by cell, species by species—using single-cell and epigenomic tools in crops and their wild relatives. 🎥 youtu.be/8Q0K_3d0K6k 🌱 kenchanmanelab.com
So 🥳excited🎉 to publicly announce what we’ve been working on for over two years, 🔥Spearhead Bio🔥, which comes out of @DanforthCenter and my lab’s love of transposable elements!! danforthcenter.org/news/danforth-…

#Historic_Day in Indian Science and Agriculture May 04, 2025. India will release two #GenomeEdited_Rice varieties, developed by @icarindia With this, India Joins the USA and Japan to have commercially available genome-edited crops. #CRISPR
"Late ah vanthaalum latest ah varuven"! We may be late to join the cryo-EM bandwagon, but when we finally did, it is with the latest and the hottest report! Thanks are not enough to @sandipbasak21 and @nikydna, for making this possible! Kudos to @SaharanKetul, too!
1/2 A new publication from the lab of Dr. Dileep Vasudevan (Scientist, Transdisciplinary Biology Program, #BRICRGCB) appeared in the journal "Journal of Structural Biology"... @DrJitendraSingh @rajesh_gokhale @DBTIndia @IndiaDST @BricDbt7510 @lab_vasu @dileepvasudevan
Check out our new study now in biorxiv! We show the involvement of OsWRKY53 in signalling downstream of PEPs and its role in suppression of PSK mediated transcriptional responses. @shivaprasad_pv @Dipasmit_pc and Riju.
Second chapter of talented @harshithcy 's PhD thesis, now a preprint. This describes role of WRKY53 in wound signalling downstream of OsPEP-OsPSKR module previously identified by him. Comments are welcome. Thanks @NCBS_Bangalore @TIFRScience biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Check this cool story from @VivekHariSunda1 @shivaprasad_pv describing a novel histone variant in rice that contributes to salt tolerance and also elucidating chromatin level regulation that could have led to evolution of salinity tolerant rice cultivars!
New Article: "An Oryza-specific histone H4 variant predisposes H4 lysine 5 acetylation to modulate salt stress responses" rdcu.be/eg0Zs An Oryza-specific histone H4 variant (H4.V) forms condensed, less stable nucleosomes, regulating the salt stress transcriptome.
H4.V is Oryza-specific. It is a gatekeeper to promote deposition of active H4K5Ac during salt stress, a common stress for semi-aquatic rice. Big thanks to @JPLab_ @jp_arulanandam for beautiful CryoEM structures, Fred Berger @gmivienna for discussions, Vinoth Lab @NCBS for biochem
