The idea that art is only good if you don't have to intellectually engage with it to understand/appreciate it is disgusting. Every buffoon who shits on Picasso and Dali must be strapped up and shipped off to the funny farm.
Why are cartoon fans so obsessed with voice actors? Not knocking VAs, they're a big part of a character's soul, but there really is not much acknowledgment of the artists who actually create the action you see, outside of enormous names like Hillenburg, McCracken and Tartakovsky.
Happy 59th birthday to the talented Richard Horvitz.
I got into modernism long before taking an art history class. Two favorites are Paul Klee & Max Ernst, though Picasso isn't bad depending on period. Great art doesn't always involve marble statues with tiny penises.
Beauty is obvious. Ugliness comes with a lecture.
Cartoonist Kayfabe was great for re-igniting interest in comics for those of us coming back to the fold. That counts for readers & creators, despite being established pros Ed & Jim saw comics as accessible regardless where you were in life.
Akira Toriyama drawing Goku. This is weirdly satisfying to watch.
