1/ A 🧵about @vp @KamalaHarris and #Care: In 2017, when Harris joined the Senate, she immediately signed on as an original co-sponsor of the #FAMILYAct, to create a national #PaidLeave program. Some new senators sit on the sidelines, she didn't! congress.gov/bill/115th-con…
Sen. @MikeCrapo is co-sponsoring an amendment that would effectively end Medicaid expansion in many states while Idahoans like Shannon French share how essential the program is to providing care for her family idahopress.com/opinion/guest_…
The Senate reconciliation bill, at least in its current form, appears likely to reduce coverage about as much as the House bill. If it becomes law, that would mean reversing most of recent years' insurance coverage gains: x.com/MattAFiedler/s…
My new piece @Health_Affairs Forefront finds that if the House bill becomes law and enhanced premium tax credits expire on schedule, the US will see an unprecedented increase in the uninsured rate, wiping out about ~3/4 of the post-2013 decline.
Great news out of California - more people are using #PaidLeave to care now that the program benefits make #TimeToCare affordable for workers and families! laist.com/news/education…
Heartbreaking loss of talent and institutional commitment to human rights and women rights at the State Department 💔
Shown here if you zoom in: newly posted signs in the windows of State Department HQ saying "Women's rights are human rights." (Rubio's reforms gutted the department's Office of Global Women's Issues.)
People are voting with their feet and their dollars due to abortion bans. Bans are bad economics for states looking to attract younger people and families -- and that's on top of the harm inflicted on people's health & safety. wsj.com/us-news/aborti…
😡 "Nearly 12 million people would lose their health insurance under President Trump's "big, beautiful bill,"... lead[ing] to more unmanaged chronic illnesses, higher medical debt and overcrowding of hospital emergency departments." axios.com/2025/07/01/rea…
Shocking how bad this bill is: - 17 million would lose health care - 30% higher electricity costs - Millions of manufacturing and construction jobs destroyed - Biggest ever cut in food assistance for families, kids, veterans - $4 trillion in deficits - $1 trillion in…
GOP Sen. Thom Tillis just started telling the truth hours after announcing his retirement: “What do I tell my constituents when Trump breaks his promise by pushing them off of Medicaid?”
“No question — this is definitely the biggest cut. It’s the biggest rollback in federal support for health care ever” — @larry_levitt “You can very safely say this is the biggest cut to programs for low-income Americans ever” — @BBKogan washingtonpost.com/business/2025/…
NEW: GOP tax bill includes largest cut to US safety net in decades, possibly ever Medicaid faces ~18% cut; +10 million projected to lose insurance SNAP faces ~20%; +2 million to lose food stamps Clinton cut food stamps by ~14%. Reagan cut Medicaid by ~5% across 2 years
Reminder: The CBO score of Build Back Better, which was highly popular with policies like #PaidLeave #ChildCare & #ElderCare & #Disabiity #care & climate & health innovations was $367b. This GOP bill costs $4.5 TRILLION for wealthy tax breaks & cuts to health & food benefits. 🙀
Based on new CBO findings the number of uninsured resulting from the Senate bill is nearly 17 million -- more than the 16 million whom CBO found would lose coverage under the House bill. 🧵
And the biggest loss of health insurance coverage in history. And the biggest cut to food assistance in history. And the biggest increase in higher education costs in history. All to pay for a tax cut for the rich and corporations.
Really seems like there should be more coverage of the fact that Republicans are about to pass a bill that will cause the biggest spike in utility bills in American history.
The tax portion of the Senate bill costs $4.45 trillion, $500 billion more than the House.
JCT estimates possible Senate amendment to H.R. 1 (reconciliation) relative to a current policy baseline and the present law baseline. jct.gov/publications/2… jct.gov/publications/2…
Massive thanks to @PattyMurray for standing up for moms, kids & families - and for fighting for us every day! Sen. Murray’s leadership and expertise working to stop the Big Bad Betrayal Bill is inspiring. TY!#WeWontGetOverLosingMedicaid #VoteNoOnTheBigBadBetrayalBill
This is a big, big problem that will cause massive harm.
🚨Breaking News🚨 CBO confirms: The proposed Republican Senate bill would end SNAP for 2.9 million Americans, including 1.1M who live where jobs are scarce, 900K seniors, 600K parents, and 270K veterans, homeless, & former foster youth.
