Violence Reduction Center
@VRC_UMD
The Center for the Study and Practice of Violence Reduction (the VRC) at @UMDCriminology translates sound science into practical anti-violence policy.
DC's approach to violence intervention needs to be completely revamped, but not discarded entirely. Also, while I understand Pinto's frustration, it should stay under the mayor's authority.
Let's be real: Neither @ONSEDC_ nor @cure_dc follows evidence based practices of providing good housing, job, and mental health services that get people on a better path. Bring in @Abt_Thomas from @UofMaryland Violence Interruption Center & get it right. wapo.st/4jZEKX3
Everyone who cares about public safety should read this op-ed. Thank you @ChiefPaulNoel for your leadership - this is the right message for this moment. knoxnews.com/story/opinion/…
Law enforcement SHOULD be collecting and sharing intelligence on those who would harm their communities, but "gang databases" are riddled with errors, do little to protect us, and threaten our civil liberties. theintercept.com/2025/07/22/ice…
"Crime almost certainly fell considerably in the United States in the first six months of 2025. The decline in crime that began in 2023 and picked up steam in 2024 has accelerated even faster so far in 2025." jasher.substack.com/p/assessing-cr…

Our thoughts are with @mayorpaulyoung and his family. No public official should have to endure this. Ironically, Mayor Young is partnering with the @VRC_UMD to save lives and stop violence, the very issue the perpetrator claims to care about. washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/06…
