Meet Josef. He’s curious, bright, & full of dreams—but he’s still working to reach the reading level expected for his age. With the right support, he can unlock the power of reading. Let’s invest in foundational learning to #EndLearningPoverty — for Josef, & #ForEveryChild in 🇳🇦

Imagine being 10 in Africa and unable to read a single sentence — bright minds held back by a lack of foundational learning. It’s time to focus on what children are learning — not just if they’re in class. Let’s #EndLearningPoverty #ForEveryChild. Africa’s future depends on it.

Despite rising school enrollment, too many children in Africa still can’t read, write, or do basic math by age 10. We must act now to achieve foundational literacy and numeracy by 2035. Let’s deliver on #SDG4 and #EndLearningPoverty #ForEveryChild

Did you know? 9 in 10 children in sub‑Saharan Africa can’t read a simple story by age 10. This isn’t just a learning crisis—it’s a generational emergency. We must prioritize foundational learning—reading, writing, and numeracy. Let’s act now to #EndLearningPoverty #ForEveryChild

Africa unites to #EndLearningPoverty! Join H.E. Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah, PM Dr. Ngurare & Hon. Steenkamp on 31 July 2025 in Outjo, Kunene Region. Together with @UNICEF, AU & MEIYSAC, we’re making education a right for all! #ReadWriteCountFoundation4Life #Namibia
67 million children in Eastern & Southern Africa live in child food poverty. Most survive on just 1–2 food groups a day — often lacking vital nutrients. This is a crisis of development, not just hunger. UNICEF is working with partners to improve how food is made available.
Climbing trees, running barefoot, building forts especially in safe, open & natural spaces is key for physical & mental health. Let’s protect this right by creating opportunities for outdoor play in homes, schools, communities. Because when children play freely, they grow fully.

The right to play is a right to thrive According to Article 31 of the #CRC, every child has the right to rest, leisure, and engage in play and recreational activities. Play builds creativity, confidence, and connection. Let’s protect this right, #ForEveryChild.

A milestone for Eastern & Southern Africa! 🌍 24 universities. 16 countries. 1 bold new network for Social & Behaviour Change. Together, we’re driving results for children. More: unicef.link/3Gn60Bd
