Across Africa, UNICEF works to help children survive and thrive.
“In Mozambique, the child mortality rate dropped from 201 to 60 deaths per 1,000 live births between 1997 and 2022. Our government considers child vaccination one of the most effective programmatic actions for reducing child mortality”, emphasized President Chapo. #SDG2030
Across Eastern & Southern Africa, vaccine access is under threat, risking millions of lives. In Somalia, funding cuts could leave over 750,000 infants & 900,000 pregnant women without critical vaccines in 2026. At #HLPF2025, we call on governments to act before progress is lost.

From Policy to Action 📢: 🔸Laws in Botswana & Zambia are expanding access to SRHR services for adolescents & youth. 🔸In Eswatini, Lesotho & Uganda, stronger laws are better protecting #GBV survivors. Read more about #2gether4SRHR's impact: bit.ly/3QMs8Xa

“We can now complete our household chores more efficiently since water is readily available,” says 14-year-old Rachael from Machinga, Malawi. Access to clean water gives children back their time for learning, bonding, playing, and more. #ForEveryChild

We’re very close to a polio free Africa. But if millions of children continue to miss out on the polio vaccine, we put them and the children around them at risk. UNICEF is working with partners and governments to reach every child. #ForEveryChild, a healthy life.

Education is a right, not a privilege. In Madagascar, 12-year-old Alexandra and her classmates are learning with LEGO Braille Bricks, supported by a partnership between @UNICEF and @LEGOfoundation. The bricks promote inclusive learning for children with visual impairments.

🇺🇬 Uganda hosts 1.93M+ refugees and asylum-seekers—the largest refugee population in Africa. About 1 million are children. Many flee unimaginable violence due to conflict in neighboring countries . Every child deserves safety, care, and dignity. #WithRefugees
📢 great news! #UNICEF officially handed over 4 refrigerated vehicles 🚛to @MoHRSS2011 to help boost vaccine delivery across #SouthSudan. Thanks to @gavi for making this possible! Together, we’re strengthening cold chain systems to protect children & families. #vaccineswork
67 million children in Eastern & Southern Africa live in child food poverty. Most survive on just 1–2 food groups a day — often lacking vital nutrients. This is a crisis of development, not just hunger. UNICEF is working with partners to improve how food is made available.

Measles outbreaks across Eastern and Southern Africa have put children’s lives at increased risk. How do we prevent further spread? More children must be reached with life-saving vaccines.

🔑 Skills unlock a world of possibilities for youth. This #YouthSkillsDay, we celebrate the resilience and creativity of young people in #SouthSudan. What skills do YOU think young South Sudanese need most for the future? Share your thoughts!
