USC Master's in NeuroImaging and Informatics: NIIN
@USCNIIN
Master of Science in NeuroImaging and Informatics (http://niin.usc.edu), University of Southern California Discover the brain through imaging and data science.
🧠In NIIN 520: Experimental Design for Neuroimaging, students explored structural brain mapping using an Alzheimer’s disease dataset. Led by Dr. Lu Zhao, the students applied experimental design concepts to hands-on neuroimaging activities.

👋Welcome to Patrick Walsh, who has joined our lab as a full time Project Assistant! Patrick has an MS in Neuroimaging and Informatics from USC (@USCNIIN). He will be working on projects whose goal is to better understand risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias 🧠
🎉Congratulations to NIIN alumna Hannah Salcudean (’24), who is headed to the University of British Columbia @UBC to pursue her MD! We’re so proud of her and can’t wait to see all she accomplishes in the field of medicine. 🧠🩺

🎉Congratulations to NIIN alumna Sarah Maraach ('23), who will be attending UC Berkeley Law this fall! Sarah is eager to explore both health policy and biotech law. We're thrilled for her and will cheer for her continued success! 🌟👏

🎉🎓Congratulations, USC NIIN graduates! We are so proud of you ❤️💛. Can't wait to see what great things you will do next 🌟.

🎓Congrats to the talented Enni Lyu, who has has been on the NIIN team for 1.5 years, creating content for our social media! Enni graduated today from USC with a Master of Communication Management and will begin her new job in creator management 🌟 We will miss you, Enni!

🎉Congrats to our students on being done with final exams! It was fun to celebrate with them last night at our year-end party 🍻🍔 See more picts on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

🌟Congrats to lead author, NIIN alumna Amaryllis Tsiknia (now a Neuroscience PhD student at USC) on her new paper linking diabetes to cortical thickness in Hispanic & non-Hispanic Black and White older adults! Co-authored by NIIN alum Brandon Hall (now a PhD student at McGill U).
🧠 Our new study from @TsikniaAA @MeredithBraskie & more finds a strong link between type 2 diabetes & brain atrophy in older adults—especially in memory-related regions. Managing blood sugar could be key to protecting brain health as we age. Learn more 👉 bit.ly/3GS0Ddj
🎉Congrats, NIIN alum, Andrew Geoly ('19)! He'll join the Northwestern University Interdepartmental Neuroscience PhD program. His new paper is, “Durability of clinical benefit with Stanford Neuromodulation Therapy (SNT) in treatment-resistant depression": doi.org/10.1016/j.brs.…

Finals week is here — and it’s the last stretch before graduation! Wishing our students the best of luck as they wrap up exams, projects, and presentations. Your hard work has brought you this far, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you at the end-of-year party! 🎓⭐️

That’s a wrap on the Spring 2025 semester! Our NIIN students marked the last day of classes with a group photo full of smiles and well-earned pride. Good luck on finals, and congratulations on making it this far! 💪🧠

🎥Final presentations in our animal models class: NIIN 560, taught by Dr. Mike Bienkowski. Students showed what they've learned about neuroanatomy through histology, microscopy, & neuroinformatics. It’s been a semester of hands-on learning & discovery! 🐭🧠

Congrats to NIIN alumna, Rachel Custer on her new first author publication!

Students in NIIN 600: Science Communications delivered their final presentations—turning their neuroscience ideas into research project proposals. This semester, they’ve built writing, presentation, and career development skills essential for science communication success.

🎉We’re excited to share that NIIN student, Chloe Retika, has been accepted into UCLA’s Neuroscience Interdepartmental PhD Program! She was also awarded the Eugene Cota-Robles Fellowship. We’re so proud of her achievements & can’t wait to see the impact she’ll have in her field✨

Students in our Computational Modeling in Neuroimaging class (taught by Dr. Yonggang Shi) gained hands-on experience using the LONI Pipeline workflows and fiber orientation distribution (FOD)-based tractography to reconstruct the arcuate fasciculus white matter fiber bundle 🧠💻

📣Our final application deadline is coming soon! Apply by May 1, 2025, to be considered for our next MS in Neuroimaging and Informatics cohort. Join a collaborative, research-driven community at the cutting edge of brain science🧠. Learn more & apply at: niin.usc.edu/students/prosp…

🎉Congrats to NIIN alumna Sandhya (Prathap) Chakravartti, PhD ('16) on her Nature Metabolism paper! And shoutout to NIIN alumni co-authors Brendan Angelo and Hanyang Liu. They find that sucralose (artificial sweetener) increases brain hunger signals 😮 go.nature.com/4juPHQB

🔎Hands-on learning in NIIN560 with Dr. Mike Bienkowski! Last week, students practiced mounting thinly sectioned mouse brain coronal sections onto microscope slides. 🧠🔬This week, they’ll stain these sections for Nissl & analyze the brain cytoarchitecture. #NIIN #Neuroanatomy
