🧠New paper alert! We define PI-2620 tau PET cutpoints in a diverse cohort — summary of 🗝️ findings below ⬇️ 675 adults: • AB+ cognitively impaired (CI) • AB– cognitively unimpaired (CU) • 28% Hispanic, 31% NH Black, 41% NH White 🔗 Read it here: (bit.ly/44RLVwe)

New paper in Imaging Neuroscience by Victoria R. Tennant, Meredith N. Braskie, et al: Establishing tau-PET cut-points for cognitive diagnosis with 18F-PI-2620 in a multi-ethnoracial cohort doi.org/10.1162/IMAG.a…
📣Our new paper, led by Victoria Tennant, sets tau cut points in a large cohort of Hispanic, and non-Hispanic Black and White participants using PI-2620 PET. ⭐️The ability of our tau cut points to distinguish cognitively impaired vs unimpaired people varied by ethnoracial group.
🚨 We've identified a new brain imaging benchmark that may improve how researchers classify biologically meaningful changes associated with Alzheimer’s disease🧠 Learn more & check out the animation! bit.ly/45JfzER
👋Welcome to Patrick Walsh, who has joined our lab as a full time Project Assistant! Patrick has an MS in Neuroimaging and Informatics from USC (@USCNIIN). He will be working on projects whose goal is to better understand risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias 🧠

📣Our paper (bit.ly/3ZndVVh), led by @TsikniaAA, links diabetes to cortical thickness in 2171 Hispanic & non-Hispanic Black and White cognitively unimpaired older adults 🧠🥮 We found that:

New paper - led by Dr. Allie Clark: bit.ly/3SGgNJg -People w/ low resources & high distress had smaller hippocampi & thinner cortex vs people w/ more resources & less distress. -Low resources (regardless of distress) were associated w/ faster brain aging.
🎉Congrats to Noelle Lee, who will start a software development engineer internship this summer! Noelle has been with the lab 4 years and her amazingly analytical mind, careful work, and fun personality made the lab a better place 🌟🧠. We miss you already, Noelle!

📣 New paper led by Dillys Lui (@KristineYaffe's lab) bit.ly/3HeZFb1 -⬆️light sleep% & longer REM sleep latency = thinner cortex in AD-related regions -⬆️ deep sleep % = thicker cortex (same regions) -⬆️ apnea hypopnea index in rapid eye movement sleep = ⬆️ WMH volume.
🎉Congrats to Phd student, Amaryllis Tsiknia @TsikniaAA, who led our new paper bit.ly/3ZndVVh studying how diabetes relates to cortical thickness in Hispanic & non-Hispanic Black & White older adults! Read more here: bit.ly/3GS0Ddj More on our findings soon...
🧠 Our new study from @TsikniaAA @MeredithBraskie & more finds a strong link between type 2 diabetes & brain atrophy in older adults—especially in memory-related regions. Managing blood sugar could be key to protecting brain health as we age. Learn more 👉 bit.ly/3GS0Ddj

🎉Congrats to Cecilia Ardon Pane! Cecilia started research with us last summer through the @csuf/@USC @naareprogram. This fall, she will be joining the Master of Public Health program at @UCIrvine with a concentration in Epidemiology!✨

🧠✨Great Neuroscience Graduate Program Research Symposium yesterday, @USCNGP! Good to talk with current students, hear about their research, and meet new people (including some terrific prospective students).

Your small act of kindness might mean the world to someone else. npr.org/2025/03/04/nx-…
So excited to have Suchita join our lab!
🎉Congrats to NIIN alumna Suchita Ganesan ('24) on her exciting new role as a full-time Project Assistant at Dr. @MeredithBraskie's lab, where she worked as a volunteer while in our program. In her new position, she’ll be studying Alzheimer’s disease risk using neuroimaging.
✨💻Join our virtual information session for our MS in Neuroimaging and Informatics program! Tuesday, February 25, 2025, 4 pm PST Hear about our curriculum, research opportunities & student perspectives. To register: email [email protected], subject line “Information Session”
What are your favorite resources for learning about neuroimaging techniques & research? Things like websites, podcasts, youtube channels, organizations to follow etc.
In 833 cognitively unimpaired older adults, obesity related differently to brain tau across ethnoracial subgroups. To find out more, come talk to Victoria Tennant at poster #143 tomorrow (Friday) 11:05 am-12 at Human Amyloid Imaging @HAIconference
