Trussell Scotland
@TrussellScot
An anti-poverty charity and community of food banks working to end hunger in Scotland 💚
🚨BREAKING: 240,000 emergency food parcels were provided by food banks in the @TrussellScot community last year. That’s one parcel every two minutes. Double the number a decade ago.

Food banks provide so much more than just food. 💚 They also provide advice on money matters, offer a listening ear, and make a decent cup of tea. This extra support is a lifeline and reduces the chances of someone needing to turn to a food bank again.

Scots are 'tired and angry' as politicians called on to listen to public concerns about the future. Great coverage of #ScotlandDemandsBetter in today's Daily Record. #WeDemandBetter dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/…
‼️The UK government has pushed through huge cuts to Universal Credit for disabled people applying in the future. Our Policy Manager @ayaz_manji explains what you need to know ⤵️
We applaud the power of disabled people, food banks, and people like you who have used your voices to stand up for disabled people. The remaining cuts to disability support are very concerning. But you helped make huge improvements to the Welfare Bill. 💚
🚨 We’re shocked and disappointed. The UK government has pushed through HUGE cuts to Universal Credit for disabled people applying in the future. These cuts will be devastating. They risk pushing even more disabled people to food banks.
Yesterday evening the House of Commons published the list of amendments likely to be selected for a separate vote this afternoon (if the MPs who have tabled them move one)
It’s already the case that 75% of people referred to @TrussellScot food banks are in a disabled household. If the cuts go ahead, many more will be forced into severe hardship. MP’s must reject these cuts.
❗ Today, MPs will vote on whether to make record cuts to disabled people's social security. The scale of the remaining cuts will be devastating and risk pushing more disabled people to food banks. MPs must vote NO to disability cuts.
Universal Credit and (no longer!) PIP Bill goes to a final vote today. Here's our joint briefing with 20 other organisations setting out final analysis of the Bill & priorities for further amendments: ucpipbill.co.uk
Disabled people are already THREE times more likely to need to use food banks. MPs must vote NO to cuts to disabled people’s social security today.
‼️ The scale of remaining cuts will still be devastating and risk pushing more disabled people to food banks in Scotland and across the UK. These cuts must NOT go ahead. Ask your MP to vote against the cuts next week. ⤵️ action.trussell.org.uk/votenoagainstc…

🚨 Let’s talk about the disability bill. This is what we know so far…🧵

We applaud the power of disabled people, food banks and MPs, like Dr Marie Tidball, who have tirelessly used their voices to stand up for disabled people. 💚 Ahead of the final vote next week, we're encouraging MPs to ensure disabled people are protected from severe hardship.
🚨 BREAKING: The government's bill to cut disabled people's social security is still proceeding, but with all cuts to PIP now set to be REMOVED. We applaud the power of disabled people, MPs, and community organisations like food banks who have tirelessly raised their voices and…
❗️ Today, MPs will be voting on whether to make record cuts to support for disabled people who need it in the future. Disabled people are already overrepresented at food banks. We’re joining food banks, charities and hundreds of you to encourage MPs to say NO to the cuts.…
'Fact is work is the best way out of poverty' from leader of opp - except work is *not* a reliable route out of hardship @TrussellUK research found ppl in work make up majority in severe hardship - precisely why moves into work cannot make up for the scale of cuts being voted on
‼️ Three in four people who need to use a food bank are in a disabled household. ‼️
