Our new preprint, in collaboration with @KamounLab and contributions from @jonathandgjones, @AdamWu9527, and @JiorgosKourelis labs, on the exciting discovery of organelle targeting by an activated helper NLR is out! 👇
🚨 A new twist in #NLRbiology! 🚨 Excited to report on the surprising mechanism where the helper NLR NRG1 targets organellar membranes to trigger immunity unlike canonical CC-NLRs, which function at the plasma membrane! 1/11 🧵 doi.org/10.1101/2024.0…
Honoured that our T-cell immunotherapy research is featured in The Telegraph via Cancer Research UK. Using Tocky, we reveal the behaviour of therapy-responsive and anti-cancer T cells, aiming to further improve immunotherapy approaches to melanoma. telegraph.co.uk/science/cancer…
I finally got around to publishing my MPMI poster on 'Developing broad bean as a new model system for studying plant immunity'! We show that you can do HR assays, transient RNAi, and confocal microscopy in this legume species🌱🫘Check it out: zenodo.org/records/1631... #2025MPMI
Is this a trick to bypass tariffs?
NEWS: Mercedes-Benz is integrating Microsoft Teams into its vehicles, starting with the new CLA model.
Beautiful!
Our new work lead by Anuphon. Cryo Structure of CARD1 reveals copper in the ecodomain, required for sensing H202. The phenotype of card1 is same as rbohd, suggesting ROS produced by RBOHD is sensed by CARD1.

And the same goes for science. We r entering an era where bold ideas, not just technical know-how, drive discovery. AI levels the playing field, anyone with curiosity and insight can now ask, test, and explore at scale.
"Everybody's an artist now. Everybody's an author now." We're not replacing human creativity - we're amplifying it 100x. The person with the best ideas wins, not the one with the most technical skills. This changes everything about who can build companies:
Former students and colleagues of Dr. John McDowell published a @MPMIjournal article detailing John's amazing scientific achievements in the field of molecular plant-microbe interactions. John was a dedicated mentor, teacher, and friend to many within and beyond Virginia Tech.
RIP John. What a gent.

#HeardToday #AcademicChatter I'm reviewing this paper while on holiday at the beach, which normally puts me in a positive mood... Several experiments are so fundamentally flawed that they wiped out all the good vibes usually provided by a dip in the Mediterranean Sea.
Excited to preprint work mainly by former postdocs Li Feng, Yingnan Hou @Cerhou, and the phylogenomics genius @amiralito_ @TheSainsburyLab. We found a plant defense gene family enabling pathogen gene silencing & explored engineering this pathway to boost disease resistance!
