When @RamyYaacoub let me know he'd be stepping away from @TimepDC years ago, I was devastated. Seeing him at @OpenSociety has made it so worth it. I've seen firsthand the doors he's opened up for small, impactful orgs & the collabs he helped nurture to foster an actual ecosystem.
It's been incredible to see @RamyYaacoub set the bar so high for what a donor looks like -- deep knowledge of the region, dedication to its people, and a commitment to make funding truly accessible. It's no surprise @washingtonian recognized him for his work earlier this year.
📢 After 2.5 whirlwind, relentless, and rewarding years at @OpenSociety, I’ll be stepping down as Director of MENA Programs and moving on to a new adventure at the end of the month. Grateful to @NowrojeeOSF, @AlexanderSoros, et al. Stay tuned for more on what’s cooking soon. 🫡🖖
NEW: More than ever, Lebanon is in need of bold foreign and domestic policies that break from the failed strategies of the past, and it needs all the support it can get, argue @safieddine00 and @Jadshahrour. timep.org/2025/07/23/byp…

A decade of growing anti-migrant rhetoric in Europe has produced externalization policies and a narrowing of legal rights of asylum-seekers. An alternative path forward is possible, argues former nonresident fellow @DrDrewMikhael. timep.org/2025/06/17/the…

It's been extremely heavy to watch the violence in Suwayda unfold and with it, the dehumanization of the "other," the weaponization of those vulnerable, the terror of civilians, and the destabilization of Syria. @TimepDC stands with the victims and has these words to offer.
With great alarm, we at TIMEP are monitoring the harrowing accounts of violence in Suwayda, Syria that has killed civilians, displaced people from their homes, and exacerbated sectarian tensions at a deeply sensitive moment. First and foremost, we hold the victims in our hearts.

Egypt is offering hefty discounts on corporate taxes and free land access to spur investment in renewables. Who do those policies stand to benefit? I unpack the potential impacts here:
Egypt's green energy push risks creating new dependencies. By offering investors tax breaks & free land, it mirrors costly deals in the oil & gas sector. TIMEP’s @mccoin_haley urges a change of course to ensure a sustainable energy future for Egyptians: timep.org/2025/07/17/new…
