A poster with "God provides" and a cute kitten lapping milk will be popular. "God provides" and vultures feeding from a bloody carcass... not so much.

Whereas the early Evangelicals (Edwards, Wesley, Whitfield, Simeon) were deeply sacramental, New Birth theology gradually watered that down such that contemporary Evangelicalism became deeply (sub-)Zwinglian. Hence it loses a vital aspect of catholicity.

Death is a terrifying monster, one we cannot tame. But our Maker can - and has - struck a mortal blow against Death.

God is speaking ALL THE TIME, especially in suffering, to warn you about The Pit and to urge you to turn to The Angel, The Messenger, who has provided himself as a Ransom to deliver us from The Pit.

It may be a shock to Western Christians, raised in a therapeutic society, that God does not give Job comfort or soothing words. More than personal well-being, we need a true vision of the sovereign, saving God.
