Teresa Thurston
@ThurstonLab
Cellular microbiologist at the MRC-CMBI - Imperial College London. We study host-pathogen interactions, in particular we love Salmonella. Views are my own.
So thrilled to join the EMBO young investigator programme. Looking forward to some great times ahead for the lab as part of this community.
27 life scientists have been selected as the newest members of the EMBO Young Investigator Programme. Congratulations and welcome! Read more: embo.org/press-releases…
Salmonella triggers amino acid malabsorption in the ileum to create a a wave of lysine entering the cecum. Decarboxylation of lysine buffers the cytosol to protect against short-chain fatty acids, enabling the pathogen to invade the cecal ecosystem. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Dunn School this Sep! Can’t wait to join the fantastic environment and many groups working on the cellular mechanisms underlying human health and disease @Dunn_School
We are delighted to announce that Teresa Thurston is joining the Dunn School as an Associate Professor! @ThurstonLab uses a multidisciplinary approach to study bacterial virulence factors and host immunity. Find out more: path.ox.ac.uk/news-article/t…
Could bacteria be the next frontier in nucleic acid delivery? 🧬 @ProfTomEllis, @ThurstonLab and I explore this in the latest @TrendsinBiotech review article - doi.org/10.1016/j.tibt… Here's the highlights 🧵

Thank you @ThurstonLab for the amazing opportunity to be part of your Lab. It’s been great working with @Ines_DdO on the exciting work on Salmonella macrophage interactions. Grateful for the imperial.ac.uk/global-develop… which funded my stay @imperialcollege .
Today we said goodbye to @KeringKev, our global hubs fellow from the Kariuki lab in Kenya. Kelvin worked with @Ines_DdO on Salmonella-macrophage interactions - thank you for visiting our lab Kelvin and we wish you the best for the final leg of your PhD.

"It was a real honour to receive this award and I can’t thank enough those who have inspired me..." Congratulations to @ImperialInfect's Dr Teresa Thurston (@ThurstonLab) for being recognised for her work supporting women in academia 🎉 imperial.ac.uk/news/254513/te…
You still have 90 min to register !!! There’s no euros game that evening. Come celebrate science with us in Sheffield
Excellent programme for the (6th?) UK Cellular Microbiology Meeting in Sheffield. Still time to register and attend: ukcellmicro.org

It's been a busy week with a paper out 🥳, an award for supporting women (thank you @imperialcollege @ImperialInfect ) 💪, a goodbye lunch for our amazing students Elisabeth and Violette 🥹and the wonderful news that Ada, a visiting PhD student, was awarded her PhD 🍾.

Happy to see this out in final form! authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S19…
Bacteria can counter noncanonical lipid ubiquitination with a #ubiquitin esterase! Fantastic collaboration with @ThurstonLab and @CMBI_Szczesna, with @r_lacoursiere driving our side of the project using some amazing tools built by the Geurink lab.
