I'll be in the vicinity of Tupper Lake, NY, roughly Aug 2-14. If any of y'all fans of the podcast happen to be in the general area (say, the triangle defined by Lake Placid, Long Lake, and Tupper Lake) and want to grab a beer, ping me by one of the usual means.
Tracks.
And there you have it. Most of the anonymous rando accounts opining on US economic policy... ...are really just bots and troll farms from foreign countries.
If Texas Republicans were smart they'd be all "we're good as long as you don't run BETO!" while secretly hoping the Democrats run Beto.
Could a fresh face be Texas Democrats' best hope against the GOP? statesman.com/story/news/col…
Great evening of cigars and beers with @morganwarstler, solving problems. Snagged robot ride home.

The humanities have become too easy, even in elite schools. See, e.g., Princeton watering down its requirements for a degree in Classics to eliminate any requirement to learn Greek or Latin.
It’s because the classes are harder! You *could* make really hard humanities classes to weed out the weakest students, but schools in practice don’t do that so it actually is the case that science majors are smarter and harder working.
The summer of 2020 was legitimately insane
In essence, "decolonizing your bookshelf" is about actively resisting and casting aside the colonialist ideas of narrative, storytelling, and literature that have pervaded the American psyche for so long, says @itsjuanlove. trib.al/VKxyuRp

Happy Birthday Henry Knox born July 25, 1750. DYK that he: *belonged to a street gang when he was a teenager in Boston *witnessed the Boston Massacre & testified at the trials. *shot off 2 fingers the day before his 23rd birthday. *married Lucy Flucker in 1774. *his younger…
Helluva thread. It feels true, but “feels” is just a reflection of my instincts, not data. My broad sense is that we need to raise all standards everywhere all at once. But that is tough to do when popularity drives power, which is how it works now, far more than in the past.
If you want to understand why the universities have become stupid, you have to understand that the universities have literally become stupid. The average undergraduate IQ has fallen by nearly 20 points in 80 years--massive. This drop has happened at every level of education.
Just finished. Exceptionally well done, worthy of quite a few "pats on the back". Thank u for the podcast.

#OTD in 1660, Edward Whalley and William Goffe, both “regicides” who had signed the death warrant of King Charles I in 1649, arrive in Boston, having fled England to avoid capture. Puritans sheltered them, and despite many attempts would never be caught. thehistoryoftheamericans.com/regicides-on-t…
This is what they took from us.
It’s weird that serial killers were a thing for like one 30 year period

I’m impressed, and a bit relieved, that the AI understands that @iowahawkblog is a satirist. Except when he’s not….
Based on engagements and mutual follows, the most famous visitor to your profile is David Burge, the satirist known as Iowahawk.

Hey @grok who was the most famous person to ever visit my X profile? They don’t have to be mutual. Don’t tag them, just say who it was.
According to the @WSJ, the boom in crypto tokens has led to a can’t-miss opportunity to buy “Hype,” which is “pretty special.” Why screw around? Just go with tokens called “Bubble” and “Scheme.”

I wonder if demand for Coldplay's tickets has gone up since... you know. I mean, maybe some people were reminded they exist and that they should go to a concert.
Editing the audio files of the next episode, a wide-ranging Sidebar conversation with @PhilWMagness. Should be out next week!
