All the people whining about Orion prototypes costing $10k would be very surprised to find out how much Crescent Bay - hint, it was several times more expensive, and getting it from there to $599 consumer product only took a year or so.

10 years, $100 billion. Humanity has never stopped building wonders. Meta has already spent two-fifths of NASA's Apollo program budget on Reality Labs. Sure, Orion is a $10,000 devkit, but most people don’t grasp the insane challenges behind building something like this.
IMO its more like Meta ended up showing a prototype 2-3 years away from release because of AVP. Either way I do agree - the real battle is going to be over AR glasses, not really VR as much.
