Comfort & ergonomics are the main Achilles' heel of XR. If we shrink current headsets to 3/4 of their size and weight, then we will open this industry to the multi-billion-dollar market.
What opinion about VR has you like this?
The moment lightweight, all-day AR glasses gain dynamic scene understanding (without user input) like this, we’ll enter a whole new era. From that point on, AI and app developers will shape what we see… and what we don’t. Kinda scary to think about. Source: @stspanho
When will Meta achieve this level? Are codec avatars just a myth at this point?
Google’s HUD glasses won’t gain much traction - nobody wants to control a UI using just their voice. That approach will fail. I’m no Meta fanboy, but their EMG wristband idea is far more practical. I do wonder how much the wristband adds to the total cost of Celeste (Hypernova)

What's the weight threshold for a headset to not need a top strap? 200g? 100g? I’m curious if Meta’s ultra-lightweight headset, rumored for next year (around 110–120g), will include one.
I'm sad that Meta is shifting away from full VR and prioritizing MR glasses. Those would be cool, but I like fully immersive experiences. Source: Stuff I read, then I made these in chatgpt.
If Lenovo and Asus launch their VR headsets this October, with: - 2.5K micro-OLED displays - Eye tracking - Greatly improved MR capabilities - New XR2+ Gen2 Processor - Price range: $700–$1200 Would you consider buying one? At least there will be no Quest Pro situation again.

It looks cool as hell, but if Meta doesn’t include Quest Touch controllers, most people won’t stick with it. Why? Fresnel lenses = poor image quality. Once the novelty wears off, it won’t be enough. It needs Touch controllers so people can also use it for VR gaming.

I'm bullish on Snap, but even more bullish on XReal. It’s fascinating how differently Snap, Meta, and XReal are approaching AR glasses Snap - fully standalone Meta - wireless compute pucks XReal - birdbath optics And now XReal claims the Aura will have a 70° FOV, dang.
If Snap meets its timeline, it will beat Meta and Apple to market with true AR - and via completely standalone glasses, no puck. Spiegel says Specs has "a much smaller form factor, at a fraction of the weight, with a ton more capability" compared to the dev kit. Huge claim!
