Meeting w/ the head of city council in Maadan & his advisor in the absence of a governor in Raaqa. Tremendous challenges, in particular in the water &sanitation domain. Both stressing the importance of ending the aleniation between farmers and state and their economic importance.

Shocked to see the damage on critical infrastructure such as hospitals and bridges from the war against ISIS in Raqqa governorate. Almost 10 years later very little progress on reconstruction.

Delighted to see how well Raqqa city🇸🇾 is recovering from the horrors of ISIS and the war against it. Much of the city has been rebuilt, even parks are back, the main streets lit and full of life.

Visiting Euphrates Dam in Tabqa🇸🇾, badly damaged by ISIS and military actions, partially rehabilitated by @UndpSyria. The dam is essential for drinking water, irrigation & electricity, stabilizing the entire Syrian grid. Impressive to see how the technicians kept &keep it running
