New data on solar, wind, and battery deployment just came out. Let's check in on the race between California and Texas to build clean energy...
One of the most extreme maneuvers by a state PUC commissioner I’ve seen just happened, attempting to block a major late-stage solar project that's *already* procured by @DukeEnergy under the PUC resource plan - a stark example of what @elonmusk @jessepeltan call an “anti-solar…
One of the dumbest arguments against renewables is that, "they need a backup!" If a backup is bad, a world without RE is worse. Without RE, we'd be 100% backup. These things work together. It'd be like saying, don't eat at restaurants because your backup is the grocery store!
What's going on in North Carolina?! powerpolicy.net/p/nc-commissio…
I have thought on it and prayed about it, and I have decided: I am running to be the next U.S. Senator from North Carolina.
Underreported in the PJM capacity market results - Dom zone (Virginia) capacity prices fell yoy despite all the data centers & highest 10-yr load growth % in PJM. 2025/26: $444/MW-day 2026/27: $329/MW-day Transmission upgrades increased capacity import limits (CETL) by 43%.…
Found this helpful graphic from 2014... damn fine way to explain horizontal fracking vs. old school vertical
On why the cheapest form of energy does well in Texas: “[Texas] set up its markets to be cut-throat,” says Joshua Rhodes, a research scientist at [UT Austin] By contrast, in many other parts of the US, there is no competition at all, says Rhodes. telegraph.co.uk/gift/80aac07ff…
Hey #energytwitter, let's meet up for a DC happy hour on Wednesday, 7/30 at 530pm at Mission in Navy Yard. Bring a friend. Tag a DCist. Come up with your own invite image and post it below.

I've been trout fishing every day for the past five days and it's been phenomenal.

"Turn off the lights!" Is not an important energy saving tip anymore. Do anything you can to make your heating/air conditioning more efficient will save way more (with more comfort) than unplugging the TV. Sure, it doesn't hurt to turn the lights off, but dont think its a biggie.

So concludes my trip to the Southeast Energy Exchange Market. It was pretty hot, so supply evaporated, but I still made a match!

Mining requirements for clean energy is way lower than for fossil fuels.
It’s true that fossil fuels have enabled an insane level of development, but we now have better options. These options need less destructive mining, reduce air pollution, and mitigate climate change. It’s just human progress.
Wind + solar produced 40% of Texas' power for the first half of 2025. Not one conservation call or energy emergency in 2024 or 2025. Wholesale costs are 15% below national average. But sure, keep trying to convince the public that coal is "beautiful." Good luck with that.
Wind, solar, and battery energy combined are ONLY 3% of U.S. total primary energy—that’s not enough to secure a nation. America must lead with innovation to power our future with RELIABLE and SECURE forms of energy.
AI's hunger for power is real, but so is everyone else's need for a stable grid. My latest in @LatitudeMedia argues we can't afford 2 separate energy systems—one for big data and one that fails people. It's time for intentional, human-centric grid design. latitudemedia.com/news/ai-requir…
@ArushiSF @tesladrian Agreed—zip code integration for VOLL calcs is feasible nationwide via public SAIDI data. Example: NYC (10001) avg outage 1.5 hrs/yr, VOLL $5/kWh, yields ~$9/yr resilience value per kW. Tesla could embed this in the app for smarter buys. Let's iterate!
We wrote a blog post that covers a few of 'em: rmi.org/gas-turbine-su… Financial analysts def have a handle on it. Staff in GA also put together a great list: psc.ga.gov/search/facts-d…
