So, so, so, so pleased about this! Honestly, sometimes it can feel like you’re howling into the void when you repeatedly say smoking kills regardless of what else people have got going on. The more we recognise this, the greater chance we have of saving lives. 🙏@SSA_Addiction
Congratulations to @Sharon_ACox, who has been named the winner of this year’s Impact Prize for her work to address health inequalities in smoking cessation interventions tinyurl.com/5cd64nvt
I loved working with Martin and I loved making this video. There’s a whole load of them here: youtube.com/playlist?list=…
You had me at @SwitchFinder and @Sharon_ACox. These are no ordinary myth busters. Rather, they are among the most well respected experts in tobacco harm reduction research. How could I not know about this? No idea, but lol it's your fault. Thanks, JK! youtu.be/sQSudItRMUo?si…

Concerns have been raised that vaping has created a 'new generation of nicotine addicts'. Using NYTS data, we examined changes in the proportion of US high-school students reporting symptoms of nicotine dependence over the past decade, in the context of changing patterns of…

The Smoking Toolkit Study shows substantial declines in smoking prevalence and cigarette consumption among adults in England since 2007. However, the extent of these changes differs according to how the outcomes are defined. Research letter in @TC_BMJ tobaccocontrol.bmj.com/content/early/…

As smoking rates come down it’s important to look at where the people who smoke the heaviest (ns 🚬) are. Prevalence tells us the % of people smoking, 🚬 smoked tells us something else, both are needed to target finite resources… so this is what we looked at - led by Sarah 👇🏼
Our new paper provides up-to-date evidence on cigarette consumption across Great Britain. 🟡~28.6 billion cigarettes are smoked each year. 🟡There are persistent disparities across socioeconomic groups, regions, and nations. academic.oup.com/ntr/advance-ar…
Around 28.6 billion cigarettes are smoked in Great Britain each year, find Sarah Jackson et al. There are persistent disparities in consumption across socioeconomic groups, regions, and nations, reflecting broader patterns of inequality. academic.oup.com/ntr/advance-ar… @DrSarahEJackson
Important study, and raises the point that at the very least when people who use heroin and other drugs say they want to quit, we should not talk them out of it. Better still, provide support. Thanks to @danlewer for leading
📷 We did some life table modelling among people who use heroin. Tobacco smoking causes as many premature deaths in this group as illegal drugs. Yet public health policies overlook smoking: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11… New research with @Sharon_ACox and @TattanBirch

V comfortable with 16 yr olds having right to vote, especially as 90+ yr olds can.
when i was 16 and left home i earned £2 an hour less than my colleagues in the job i worked to pay rent. this was a policy brought in and upheld by governments i didn’t have a say in.
Reminder to those arguing for votes at 16: you have to explain why voting is *different* from everything else, not why it should be the same... You can’t marry, serve in a combat role or buy cigarettes until 18

And here is the qualitative analysis, highlighting specific barriers and facilitators to using a vape and reducing smoking. As we’ve highlighted for years, for this to work we need staff buy-in & motivation boosts for small wins Also open access: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
