Medical licensing exams are convenient LLM benchmarks, but they don’t reflect real-world clinical tasks. With LLMs already in EHRs, we need benchmarks that match real-world needs. Let’s partner with hospitals piloting these tools to develop diverse, task-specific evaluations.

We have a new review on generative AI in medicine, to appear in the Annual Review of Biomedical Data Science! We cover *over 250 papers* in the recent literature to provide an updated overview of use cases and challenges for generative AI in medicine.

Check out our poster at the #NeurIPS2024 SafeGenAI workshop on measuring LLM steerability until 5pm! We propose a measurement framework for steerability, and find that recent LLMs aren't steerable as we define it: asking LLMs for one thing induces changes in undesired aspects.
