We trained with the PMPF both in Victoria and Mombasa, most of the maritime security forces in charge of Somalia both EUNAVFOR and US help train Somali partners and their security allies. The idea that PMPF would be considered threat to their own water is a developing conundrum.

I remember going through slow traffic in Mogadishu in 2015, and as I was watching wretched lives plagued by their own inability to govern, I saw one of their militiamen, undisciplined and hyped up on whatever he was chewing the night before, beat a woman and no one cared.

What’s happening is obvious. We liberated over 100+ villages and towns, yet there was no competent Somali partner to take over and hold the ground. They asked us to hand it over for purely political reasons, and now that they’ve lost it, they’re begging to come back. God help us.

My thoughts are with the crew and families affected by the helicopter crash in Mogadishu. In that airspace, one must always consider the threat of sabotage. Al Shabaab often acts with inside help,sometimes even from within Somali security ranks. Let’s await the investigation
