“China isn’t just sort of an analytical problem, it is the political problem…. The development of China is the master key, I think, to understanding modernity…. And without it, you just don’t have a hope of grasping what’s going on.” podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sin…
A storm has gathered around AUKUS in recent weeks - excellent media reporting revealing debates about the project and wider defence concerns. Here, I've gathered a @LowyInstitute thread with a range of perspectives on what it all means for Australia. lowyinstitute.org/the-interprete…
What has happened is we've reached a stage where the major party primaries have got so low that the bandwagon effect for majority no longer functions. But majorities can still occur.
Very impressive that a single 50km metro line is moving about 1/4 of the people of the entire Sydney conventional suburban and interurban heavy rail system. I think reflects 2 critical policy considerations

New @SinicaPodcast featuring Tong Zhao (赵通) of the @CarnegieEndow for International Peace — a leading expert on China's nuclear doctrine and nuclear arsenal. Fascinating look at the reasons for the expansion of recent years. Links in thread.
Sam shares his thoughts on the importance of ambition in leadership, with a fun vignette on Ange Postecoglou. Links to the podcast below!
@SamRoggeveen coined 'The Echidna Strategy', which is a pretty on the nose metaphor for how he thinks about Australian Defence policy. 🧵

Very much enjoyed this conversation with @ryannfhogg on The Echidna Strategy: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sam…
A podcast about my book, The Echidna Strategy (blackincbooks.com.au/books/echidna-…), that begins with a discussion of Ange Postecoglou and why he is an unusual Australian leadership figure. Don't worry, it all makes sense: atlasgeographica.com/sam-roggeveen/
