I think this is true and I don’t think that’s insulting to Kobe. Young, healthy T-Mac was genuinely that good. He was just playing on garbage rosters and his body didn’t hold up.
Shaq says that if you switched Kobe with T-Mac on the Lakers, he still would’ve won three rings 😳 (🎥 @bigpodwithshaq / tapthe.link/BigPodS2Ep70)
Houston’s double bigs work for reasons I don’t think other teams can replicate. The offensive rebounding bar on those lineups is so high that you basically need to have an Adams or Mitchell Robinson-level offensive rebounder for them to be viable, to say nothing of the defense.
After Houston’s success with double big lineups in the playoffs, other Western Conference teams “essentially hope to duplicate it,” per @KellyIko Houston will likely stagger Adams and Capela to be the second big in these lineups next to Sengun to keep both of them healthy
Yea for that brief period, T-Mac was heading to some really special historical places. His body didn’t hold up. He mostly played for the wrong teams. But I think there are versions of his career where he wins a few titles and an MVP and he’s remembered as an all-timer.
there’s a 1-2 year period where i don’t think the kobe v tmac debate was silly at all. melo v lebron, williams v cp3, these were never serious. kobe v tmac absolutely was. pre-injuries tmac on short list of best 2 guards that ive ever seen.
I think the difference is that most of those were solved because the better player kept ascending, whereas in T-Mac’s case, he just kept getting hurt. I think we got one of the worst possible versions of his career between injuries and rosters.
then you grow up and realize it was silly Other basketball arguments from years ago that we look back and laugh at: Melo/LeBron KG/Duncan Deron Williams/Chris Paul Westbrook/Curry David Robinson/Olajuwan People argued all 5 of these seriously at one point and they're silly
They basically have to be illusions given the mechanics of the paintings. If Tiny-Huge Island is a real place, is it tiny or huge? What is the natural water level of Wet-Dry World?
Never ever questioned if these worlds are illusions made real or portals to places that were always real.
It only took them 64 years but they finally got a Fantastic Four movie right.
Yesterday's post Summer League Third Apron podcast with @SamQuinnCBS: 🔴Damian Lillard back to Portland 🔵Chris Paul back to Los Angeles 🟣Marcus Smart to the Lakers 🟡Buyout Implications Please like and subscribe!
He's gonna be good for them. They never should've traded him. The Lakers should've found a way to sign Smart that didn't involve waiving him.
The Phoenix Suns have claimed former Lakers guard Jordan Goodwin off free agency waivers, sources tell ESPN. Goodwin, waived by the Lakers to create roster space for Marcus Smart, is a gritty, upside pickup for the Suns backcourt.
Think of the KD-Kyrie-Harden Nets. It didn't work out, but the whole reason they were able to accumulate all of that talent is that they didn't have to give anything up to get the first two guys. You can't trade for three players at that level, but you can usually get one.
I wonder if any star in the near future will actually go the other way and recognize the value of it. If you're trying to get somewhere to win, it makes way more sense to do so in free agency because the new team doesn't have to give everything away to get you.

Thing is don’t think it will ever come to it.Superstars don’t seem to enjoy the process of playing out a lame duck year and facing questions all year about their future then going through a process of meetings in the summer(it’ sucks I’d guess! Pre agency is here to stay forever
Remember Cleveland didn't trade LeBron in 2010 or 2018. If those guys say "yea we're leaving" you trade them. If they say "we're not sure, we're gonna wait until free agency and decide then," well, they're so good you likely wait just on the chance you convince them to stay.
Either way Bucks or Denver aren't gonna take that chance, they ask them if they're gonna stay or trade them next summer zero chance they're allowed to leave on a free
My expectation is that Luka extends at 2+1. However, if he plans to recruit Giannis and/or Jokic in 2027 free agency, 1+1 actually makes sense because it gives him and the Lakers a bit more cap space wiggle room if they need it (which they can then just make up in future years).
As far as Luka's extension goes, there are three viable options: - 1+1. This aligns him with Jokic and Giannis, if that matters to him. - 2+1. This gets him to 10 years of service and the 35% max as early as possible. - 3+1. Just the most money possible right now.

For now, Giannis and Jokic are eligible for 2027 free agency. Recent history has taught us to expect extensions and/or trade requests before that. Look out for Luka's extension structure too. If he signs a 1+1 to align with them, maybe free agency makes a big comeback in 2027.

Lawrence Frank and the LA Clippers’ are gearing up to pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo in free agency during the Summer of 2027, per @ZachLowe_NBA and @BillSimmons. BS: "I think that's their endgame. That Summer in 2027. 'Short term? Lets try to win. Long term? Giannis' and that's…
This is really fascinating stuff. Would recommend any of my followers give it a look.

I'd swap LeBron in there for Kidd. It may not be what the question is asking, but a player's scoring ability impacts their passing value. LeBron and Kidd are of a similar quality as passers, but LeBron gets more value out of his passes because he bends defenses more as a scorer.
Nash Kidd Magic Maravich Jokic
The poll results here are batshit. This is an A+ offense and a C- defense against an A- offense and an A+ defense. How is Team A getting a single stop? This series would not be competitive and yet half of you people are picking Team B to win?
Team A) Hakeem Olajuwon Draymond Green Kawhi Leonard Klay Thompson Chris Paul Team B) Nikola Jokic Dirk Nowitzki Peja Stojakovic Ray Allen Steph Curry Seven game series, who wins?
