Some existing Ahom monuments used to look different when they were first discovered by the colonizers. I don't know if the missing domes of Kareng ghor (an Ahom palace) were also used for the same purpose.
To those asking why Ahoms have so few ancient monuments - well many monuments were pulled down & the bricks were used in many Tea company buildings. If I’m not wrong, Maniram Dewan once openly expressed his outrage about this.
