The San Francisco Homeless Tenants Union
@SFHTUnion
The San Francisco Homeless Tenants Union is a coalition of formerly/homeless people fighting for accessible housing, economic justice and the end of capitalism.
Homelessness is a crisis caused by capitalism.
PRT/Must read: It takes a 15 comment thread for @christinevans to deftly debunk all the noxious lies about the homeless/services system in a 42 second @Scotty_Jacobs video.
Hey Scotty, who are the grifters here? The head of the latest billionaire funded PAC? Or the non profit workers who make a fraction of his paycheck helping our city’s most vulnerable? #MakeBillionairesUncomfortableAgain
“The real way to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty is to fight for a socialist system, one where we can make housing a human right and re-organize the economy and society to meet the needs of people and the planet, not those of the billionaires” instagram.com/p/DMihgOpsuXs/
San Francisco will eventually be the safest major city in the United States, but with that safety, it will also become the most soulless major city in the US. Drones, cameras, AI-based predictive policing, facial recognition software are all in the works in SF. Cont:
SF's mainstream let a right wing cell fester in its heart, hiding behind fake concerns about crime, and creating "credible messengers" who were obviously sociopaths paid to spout whatever they're told to. Watching it happen over past few years has been excruciating.
Here’s Michael Shellenberger thanking nearly the full Arcana of San Francisco, right wing trolls for Trump‘s new EO ending funding for harm reduction & moving to criminalize & imprison the homeless. It’s extraordinary that this group has had such an influence on federal policy.
We can't allow Bay Area YIMBYism/"abundance" to launder its origins or *its present trajectory* (they have opposed DSA candidates and rent control, and supported recalls against progressive electeds) on the left. And we certainly can't let outsiders do that for us in CA
San Francisco had our own Zohran. Dean Preston, who is just an amazing person. He's a tenant rights attorney, and was a DSA person in elected office. So tech-VC and crypto billionaires spent a fortune on attacking him and running a Y Combinator guy from Palo Alto for his seat.
Tech oligarchs are going to tech oligarch
Our victory is going to be so sweet.
here’s @salvationarmysf rt’ing wannabe mini-super villain @garrytan calling for an end to housing 1st as public policy -which tan probably doesnt know but is mandated by fed law to receive the HUD funds. salvation army wants those funds for itself under the “sober housing” brand
Sign the letter to stop @DanielLurie’s BILLIONAIRES BUDGET! Lurie and members of the Board of Supervisors are colluding to subvert the will of San Franciscans & redirect Prop C money away from permanent housing. Pass it on! actionnetwork.org/letters/stop-t…

The campaign we won to lower Permanent Supportive Housing tenants’ rent to 30% of income was called #30RightNow instead of “30 is Enough”, because we made the point that 30% is infact too much! Especially for disabled people on the lowest end of the income scale.
We shouldn't live our lives based on Victorian proverbs nor should we plan out a socialist future using neoliberal anti-poor policies. Where do these two things intersect? At the 30% rule - the idea that housing is affordable as long as it's under 30% of your income. link below!
Nazi Party.
was that party the... Republican Party? 😏

RV ban proposed by @DanielLurie undermines our status as a sanctuary city and pushes immigrant families onto the streets, where they will be vulnerable to criminalization at the hands of SFPD and ICE.

the point he makes is clearly correct but there’s more, the demonization of homeless ppl reinforces the dynamic he raises & provides a useful scapegoat to deflect attention away from the speculators & predatory capital recreating the reality ppl on the street are blamed for

I hate to see people priced out. That’s why I’m a YIMBY. You do like to see them priced out because you are a NIMBY. People who are priced out do not fall into homelessness, they move to another city. I’ve seen it over and over again. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
Harlo Pippenger completely destroys the supply-side libertarian YIMBY talking points about Austin with this piece. When will the media wake up to the hooey YIMBY is pedaling? How about our elected representatives? Why are you willing to redevelop our neighborhoods for rubbish?

Every year the San Francisco right wing says that The City spends a billion on homelessness. Every year this is a lie. The City should spend way more than that, as well as work to end housing speculation.
San Francisco did not spend $850 million on homelessness in 2024. The $850 million allocated to HSH includes money not spent, including money not spent in previous years that has carried over. Furthermore, much of HSH’s budget doesn’t got to homelessness, but to housing.
YIMBYism is at its most cartoonishly evil in California. Elsewhere it's often subtle, but there it's all "Hurray for the landlord whose tenants burned to death! Who says the poor need air? I'm'a build a new city in the hills but I still demand you shoot all the homeless in SF"
Despite overdoses skyrocketing amid the failure of law enforcement to put any kind of dent in drug dealing for 50 years of failed drug wars, people like Wolf keep trying to earn a buck by pushing failed, deadly policies. Gross.
